@@daveduce My home station was 46th St on the Queens IND and some of my my earliest childhood memories were of the GG Crosstown R9’s!

@@johnfromconnecticutamazing you actually had the chance to catch some R9s in service! What were they like? Did you prefer them over the newer cars that were being made at the time?

@@daveduce I clearly remember the rattan seat covers which if they were worn would pinch my legs, plus the white enamel “straphanger” loops. And the smell, especially after coming to a stop which was unforgettable! Finally, the dark olive exterior paint which was covered with years of dust and grime which gave them a matte almost-black look. Those were much more interesting than any modern car. OMG, that was over half a century ago!

The 1970s are my favorite decade of the subways, minus the eventual graffiti there was alot of neat subway cars and liveries
