Transit replaced the group box on the 62's, 62a's 68s and 68a's about fifteen years ago. The breakdown rates of these cars are better the the 179s, and the 211s. The capital budget is not fully funded, so do think the older cars are going anywhere !

Exactly I totally agree with you the R62 R62As R68 R68A have minimal issues and if you look for example a lines reliability the 1 and 3 trains are up there and what rolling stock they use R62/A. Same goes for the R68/A The B and D are extremely reliable never had an issue with it in my personal experience and what rolling stock they use R68/A. I’ve been on lines with NTTs on them and trains have broken down in my experience multiple times.
@robertko5425Ай бұрын
Lets hope that they revert back to using the 54" wide side doors found on the R142/R142A & R188 IRT NTT subway cars, which does a far better job than those ultra-wide 58" wide doors found on those new R211's which result in tremendous heat and a/c loss resulting in the HVAC system having to work harder, thus breaking-down more often. Even with the 58" doors on the R211's, the old habit of BLOCKING the doors by the passengers is still happening as well, since old habits die hard as well. Also, the R142's are approaching 25 years old as we speak as well.

Most of the R46's seem to have really slowed down, but that one caught some serious speed. I don't think I'm exaggerating if I said it was moving just as fast as the new techs also combining that with a great operator. I love those R46's and deep down hope some of em get an overhaul to run until the r268 but that's just wishful thinking.. lol. I guess not enough of the r46's run well enough anymore.

With the things in the 2025-2029 capital plan they have the R262 and R268 Cars, and what I hope for those new trains to have is wide doors like the R211s and Open Gangways like how the R211Ts have. I am also hearing that the R262s are strictly for the Lexington Ave line and the 42nd St Shuttle. as they are expected to have open gangways, and lines on the Lexington Ave line would heavily benefit from those R262 cars Now to the R268s they should also get the Open Gangways as well and be placed on the Busiest lines, they are already beginning to shuffle their fleet with the R211 order as the A and C now have 10 car R211A sets, and now a majority of the A and C are now R211s, and the M is now starting to run R179s as well, which can signify that the E, F, G and R Lines are also expected to get them as well, along with the two Option Orders of R211s as well, which can send the R160s to the B, D, N, Q and W lines, as those cars would send the R68/As to long term storage to minimize the amount of miles placed on them, while the R46s go straight to retirement.

Me as a 16 year old, I don’t want any of these subway cars to go, they were part of my childhood when I took the subway when I was little when I was like seven years old in the year of 2015 and up until 16, in the year of 2024. I even started to have my development of liking train since 2015 and I don’t want these cars to go but the sad part is that kinda hurts me, things don’t last for very long, and sadly, that is true. i’m gonna miss these cards. Yeah pretty awesome and pretty cool to look at in person back then when I was little before I lost my site in 2018 when I was 10. I can still picture of subway trains to this day what it looks like bud, picturing the new version of the subway cars right now it’s really tricky to tell if I have a site right now, and then, be blind again, that I would definitely picture what it looks like.

I've come to realize new cars a nice but when we talk about infrastructure we need to be updating signals and switches. You have one train with a lets just say Door problem. That causes that train to be late / canceled. However a switch is hung up and you can't get it to lock, that will delay every single train, even the brand new ones. All Im saying is you can't just focus on new trains and not focus on if you have the proper tracks to run those trains on. So I look forward to your upcoming videos!

i think the R268 will be identical to the R211Ts, with minor improvements. The R268 might have larger windows than the R211s, since the R211s have such small windows. But otherwise, I think the R268s will be identical to the R211s with the same front ends, as well as all the R268s having open gangways, like the R211Ts and R262s. I also think the Shoreliners, which were also built in the 1980s would also be replaced with new Push-Pull coaches made by Alstom. I'd speculate the new cars for CON-DOT and MNR would be called the C4, named after the C3s on the LIRR. They will both be hauled by the new SC42-DM Dual-Mode Charger locomotives made by Siemens.

I'm no train budget expert, but part of me wonders if the money spent replacing the locomotives would be better allocated to electrifying the tracks. (or are those areas underutilized enough to the point it would be way to expensive to do that)
@emjayayАй бұрын
Yes, there is no excuse for commuter rail at least to not be fully electified. The infrastructure is expensive, but then it's there reducing pollution and carbon, not to mention faster acceleration.

@@emjayayAgreed. As someone living in Upstate NY’s Hudson River Valley my main lines is the Hudson(Poughkeepsie) Metro North. With the Harlem(Brewster/Wassic) and Port Jervis also serving the region. At bare minimum there is no reason here in 2024, that the Poughkeepsie branch should not operate every 30 minutes or less most of the day until late evening. Not to mention the Upper Hudson Line also serves Amtrak going to either Montreal/Vermont, Buffalo/Toronto or once a day to Chicago should be electrified at least between Albany and NYC. While the Port Jervis needs minimum 2 tracks between Middletown/Walkill and Suffern/Hoboken. That way the busiest section of that corridor could increased to have hourly service between those 2 mentioned stations, 7 days a week. Then say 2 hour operations between Pt Jervis and Walkill/Middletown, all day off peak. Both I87 aka the Thruway between Rockland County and Chester/Woodbury Commons and thru to/from Newburgh is now very busy 7 days a week especially on Friday Evening and Sunday Afternoon/early evening. While finally the Wassic branch of the Harlem line should have 2 tracks and have electric service at least until Dover Plains. With service every 2 hours (every other train starts/ends at Brewster/Southeast) direct to/from Grand Central off peak including weekends and holidays. No more need to transfer at Southeast.
