i knew it. the wiki numbers are horseshit. i calculated 22.5% odds for each strangifier and 7.5% for each strange part based on my own run. i have much stronger reason to believe in my numbers now thanks to this

Assuming that the stats on loot tables are correct, the math that says something is going to be profitable usually only works out over an extreme number of boxes opened, plus not all low probability events are equally profitable. The calculation probably factors in unusuals which vary wildly in price.

I expect that the Wiki has been wrong for a couple of important crates. Crate #82 seems wrong and I've opened 1800 of them. Crate #92 is also probably wrong and I've opened a few hundred of those. I think that has been contributing the most to the difference in expected value.

@@Electric_Bill It's a custom Google Sheet that I hooked up to my overlay in OBS. I type in each unbox and it pulls a price from another part of my spreadsheet. I update the prices a few times a day.

Hey Zed, I have a question and you seem like the best person who can answer it for me So I recently got inspired by a TF2 KZbinr @MuxMax do an unboxing video, problem is I said I would out do him by doing 2,500 of his 2000 This is without a doubt going to be the biggest unboxing video in the Team Fortess community, with 100 of 20 different cases In total it’ll be about 8,000 Ranging from cases like summer 2024 to the Blue Moon case What I’m asking is, whether it’s profitable or would you be willing to join me and other people when the day of the unbox challenge come?

@@xtroll3540I have over 3200 slots since my account is only 3 years old 2500 slots would be for the cases Leaving me with over 700 slots for keys Since I’m opening a crate with a key I’m getting rid of 2 slots per crates so once I use all the keys I’ll buy the rest of the keys and do the rest of the unbox

@@nate07playzyt yeah, but you need 2500 keys for 2500 cases, and your inventory would fill more and more, since you sometimes get multiple drops from the cases

Cases aren't profitable in general, so I wouldn't expect to make money if you did that. You'd need to get some seriously great limited Unusuals to make up for the difference. I don't think I can join, but thanks for the offer!
