@Kapil Patel--These bills are no longer as crispy as they used to be (that is, before the mid 1960s). The old money was printed using a "wet" process while the newer one are made using a "dry" process so the newer issues are flat without the distinct "crispness" of the old bills. New paper money (at least those printed by the dry process) actually have somewhat of a sour odor. I have a strap (i.e., a banded pack) of uncirculated old bills made by the wet process, but because these have been stored with newer currency I can't be certain as to what they originally smelled like, or even if they retained an odor.

He could have kept the bar-coded label intact, and then saved the note having the lowest serial number (----X001, the number shown on the label) and the one having the highest (----Y000) [with X and Y representing consecutive numbers], and offered these items for sale as a "label set". I collect these, along with some of the straps or "bands" which vary slightly over the years. The straps vary in color among the different denominations, with blue, green, red, yellow, lavender, brown and gold used for $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100, respectively. Some years ago I had one of these packages, which is called a "bundle" by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) but often called a "brick" at banks. However, when received by the bank, they insisted on opening it to verify that there were 1000 notes; maybe some banks won't do this and will also refrain from rubber stamping the labels. I might buy another if I can get one that's truly a "virgin". I also obtained 1000 new $2 notes (dated 1976), but although they had the original green BEP straps, the outside package wasn't from BEP because back in those days the notes were packaged in 4000 note "bricks" containing 40 straps. These notes, along with circulated currency, typically arrive at the banks either in a Federal Reserve package or a commercial one such as Brinks. 100 circulated notes are typically inside a Federal Reserve strap with uses the same color code for the different denominations as the BEP. Banks ordered denominations below $50 in multiples of 1000 while $50 and $100 notes could be ordered in multiples of 100, and a strap of 100 notes would come in a small plastic bag (I assume this is still the case; I'd welcome corrections if someone knows differently). Both these small bags and the larger ones containing 1000 note are heat-sealed for security whether a Federal Reserve or a commercial package. However, regardless of whether the notes are new or circulated, and regardless of whether the latter have Federal Reserve or commercial packaging, all the paper money and coins is distributed to the commercial banks, credit unions, etc. by the Federal Reserve Bank of the district in which the commercial bank is located. In the days before the late 1970s/early 1980s, notes were packaged in long 4000-note "bricks" wrapped in brown paper with a metal band and a label at each end. Since then, the notes have been packaged in 1000-note bar-coded shrink-wrapped bundles. At the BEP, four of these are packaged end-to-end to form what they again call a "brick" and four of these bricks are packaged (2 x 2) to form a "cash pack" which contains 16,000 notes inside a thicker shrink wrap with appropriate labels. I've been fortunate enough to obtain a couple halves of the cash pack shrink wraps with labels, probably from when the bank had placed fairly large orders and received all of a given denomination in uncirculated notes. As the BEP says, there is an additional level--40 cash packs are put on a pallet and the whole thing shrink-wrapped and labeled, and this is a "skid" (containing 640,000 notes) which is what is shipped to the Federal Reserve Banks. (I assume it's effectively impossible for an individual to obtain a skid or even the packaging components of one.)
