Ramranch got a few good choices for a commander in this box. Meren, ghoulcaller gisa and chainer are all really sick for new commander players and would really fit his playstyle.

Find the color you want look at cards on edhrec based off that color. That’s how I started. Don’t be afraid to look at multicolored commanders, just know typically due to mana basses those will cost more for single purchases. If you want to buy singles for a deck.

I've been looking for that Selvala in the textured foil for a long time, that's a 60 dollar CAD card, the nonfoil is still 20. Edit: Sign it and mail it to me and I'll buy it, or if you get into magic then next convention in Toronto I'll trade you something way better for it, only if it's signed.
