It’s just like Amy Adams’ character said, his confidence makes him attractive. Cooper’s character has self-esteem issues. Physically, he’s more attractive, but he doesn’t have the confidence, so Bale’s character wins the day.

Its the theme of the movie and the characters. so, two characters living as things they are not, first meet at a party that is itself a lie and ignoring reality right outside. capiche?
