If anyone noticed, that first pack he opened, that Vulpix is worth some money. Not only because it's 1st Edition but its an error card, it says HP 50 not "50 HP" which is the standard format of Pokemon cards. I'm sure someone has posted this in the comments somewhere, and if that person was you, kudos! I actually had an error card Vulpix as a kid.

I remember buying a box of this back when they first came out,and nobody was buying them whenI played magic, and the guy at the LGS sold it to me for like 150$----Had never played it before,as it was just the newest game back then. Organized a quick mini-tournament that night with 18 people who all payed 10$ for 2 packs, and we drafted and went at it. Wish I would have kept it of course, but back then these weren't even looked at twice in that crowd...but the memory of that night is priceless to me. ❤😊

I never saw the 1st edition packs for sale anywhere when I got into it, I don't think I knew anyone who cracked 1st packs, but unlimited were around and I knew 1st existed because of the Machamp. Starting with Jungle I always made the point to prioritize 1st editions. I still have all my original cards, was putting together a bulk grade when they raised prices. I've got 12 1st ed cards from base, and some shadowless. Lots of very clean 1st editions from then on. As I got older I was buying packs in secret for my birthdays and Christmas, people had long abandoned the hobby so no one was going to get those things for me. It's strange trying to complete some old sets, with the values as high as they've gotten, and it's not like I should be taking binders of these out and about. I catalogued all my doubles indexed by number and resleaved into however many original wrappers as will fit, it would cost me money I don't have to grade them. I even still have some unopened packs of Fossil unlimited and a pack of 1st ed Rocket. Still have the ebay history of those older purchases, $13 for 11 packs. I don't look back with "I wish...." I did well sticking to what I like and not bouncing around fads. Hoping to get some of my wilder finds graded someday. Grew up poor, sold candy at school to take the bus to the mall, it was some good times. Cheers to the 1st edition Dragonair, when I went to get one as an adult it had already gone too far.

I like watching people that KNOW what they're looking at. Thank you for being delicate. These cards are very precious cards for the early 2000s and 1999 era. Very nice seeing them being taken care of. I can tell you have a big heart for this and not faking your emotions here.

The only thing I'd recommend for this, and it may sound a little nuts, but I did watch a special that deals with this kind of thing, getting your nails cleaned like a manicure. Or wearing gloves or something. The people that do watch commercials and whatnot, they all take very delicate care of their hands so they are really nice and presentable for live audiences. Just a suggestion. Obviously you have guy hands, I have guy hands, we fart in our hands sometimes, I get it, but if you've got hyper zoomed in cameras on your hands, it's just going to benefit you more to do that.

Man I remember when I was a kid Pokemon cards were gonna be big. Probably the first time I learned a bit about business. I saved a couple weeks allowance, bought a pack, and started trading at school. Found a music store in town that dealt with individual cards. After about 4 years I had accumulated a nice collectiin of holigraphic (at least 6 Charizards included) 1st additions along with about 50 unopened packs that I planned to stash away just like my dad did with his baseball cards. I came home after a weekend stay at my dad's house to find out my mom's boyfriend rummaged through my room and swiped all of my cards to buy meth. That killed the hobby for me, but wow I wish I would have had the opportunity to stick to it.

Your story is almost the same as mine except for one thing....I have no idea what happened to my old Pokemon cards. I had so many! I'm thinking that my mom got rid of them but I don't really know. Either way still sucks loool 😂 but it's all good since I've gotten back into Pokemon. I'll collect many of them again. I think me and you have time to collect and just have a good time. I know it's easier said than done but, try to not think about the past that way. Let's try to have fun now! Cheers bro

I had a similar story. Except instead of being sold at a garage sale, my mom gave it to my aunt for some stupid time capsule for her work. They're all buried somewhere until 2100 or something lol

Sold my 15 Bitcoins during the 2020 down turn for 7500 Dollar and never got back in. Missed the biggest bull run. Biggest miss ...Almost took my life because I couldnt bare the pain and stupidty. Now finally got over it but it still hunts me now and then. Everything happens for a reason... If you sold your cards for 250K you might have gone on a trip and got killed in a car crash etc... stay positive brother. Life is precious. Live life, call your mother and tell you love her. God bless
When I was 11 I suffered a serious head trauma so I can’t quit remember Pokémons’ release. What I do remember is I wasn’t able to get the game until later. As a child I liked the series.

I remember playing Pokemon Blue on Gameboy, and being excited for the TCG to come out. When it did, my mom bought me a bunch of these booster packs. That was the week it hit shelves in either 1999 or 2000, I can't remember. A few years later when I was in 7th grade, I sold all of my pokemon cards at a garage sale for $5.

In 1999, I owned a shipping company and one of the containers half filled with these boxes of cards was lost at sea 3 miles off the port of Long Beach. There were 12,000 boxes in the container. I wonder where it is today.

I gave away a pretty big collection including first addition Charizard, Blastoise,Alakazam , and a lot more, for a bag of weed, was a long long time ago but it was a very big expensive collection for like a 9 year old when they came out, kept them in 1 of those books too, could have been worth a fortune

here's me showing up like 6 months late to the party. i was just randomly in old school pokemon mode and ended up here and holy crap is this invigorating. im not too far into the stream/video yet, little over 20 minutes, but i was all over pokemon when it first came out and was all the time buying, trading, and battling. i tried to get as many as i could but basically stopped after the legendary collection (mid 2002) they ended up being stolen and i couldnt recoup what i had lost so i guess i just moved on. out of the 1300 or so individual cards that were out at that time i probably had around 700 individual cards but several duplicates throughout. me still having all of my toys and gaming consols still to this day from the 80s to the late 90s just means that i would still have them all today (possibly even completed sets) had they not been stolen.

There was a high chance for a Charizard in every box. Not sure why everyone gets so excited when they get one. I'd be more shocked if you didn't get one in the early boxes of boosters. Sure, a PSA 10 is awesome, but it wasn't exactly rare. Every kid back in 1999 who collected had like 5 of them. They're rare now, cuz all the ones from back then are destroyed from kids being kids

Yes, people pay for the packs and the cards are sent to them afterwards. I think it might be a bit cheaper than market value because he makes money from the video/stream. But I’m not sure.

I'm 36 and I remember the hype back in 1999. I was 10/11 and primary school and then high school both banded them because nobody could focus on anything else. I remember opening them at age 10 and packed Charizard shiny on two different occasions. Swapping one of them for a pair of roller blades and £12. I wish I'd kept them and some how kept them mint. But who knows where my other went.
