One of the most notorious Female Concentration Camp guards of the Second World War was Elisabeth Volkenrath, a woman who was responsible for the deaths of thousands inside Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen. She was a woman who would whip and beat prisoners with various weapons, and she also took part in selections to send inmates to their deaths inside of the camp's gas chambers. But for her crimes at the end of the Second World War, Volkenrath was executed.
She was condemned inside of the walls of Hamelin Prison by Albert Pierrepoint who executed her on the gallows alongside many other war criminals including Irma Grese. But this was not the end of her story, as years after her execution her remains and coffin were dug up, her coffin was then opened and she was then placed in a different wooden box ready for reburial elsewhere. Still today the remains of this infamous female guard remain on earth.
