Other than switching to chicken they didn't change the recipe all that much. The largest change was the strictness of the labeling standards. Back in '85 companies were allowed to ignore a lot of the "trace" ingredients and hide others in the "flavorings" and "spices".

Hey Post. Great to have you back in the “lab” - the old product probably consists of mostly cow and pig lungs and spleens. The new one consists of mostly mechanically separated chicken, which is chicken carcasses being sprayed down with high-pressure water to remove any remaining meat. It’s the same thing in McDonald’s chicken nuggets. PS I agree that the microscope tests don’t show much but you should do an experiment with some proper rotten meat that’s been put outside in the heat and then look to see if there’s any moving organisms.
@vincemajestyk94972 жыл бұрын
Funny you mention that, in the processed meat industry the motto is 'waste not want not'. They actually just come out and say it in some cases. Looked at a package of Oscar Meyer 'Beef' Cotto Salami. Main ingredient, 'Beef hearts'. Mcnuggets 'originally' when they came out were compressed chicken skin and grizzle. Then people found out what they were made of and they were 'forced' to change to what 'they' called white meat chicken due to the bad PR. Talk about no waste.
@Stan-at-KangarooIslandTV2 жыл бұрын
@@vincemajestyk9497 enough to make you vegetarian. When I lived in dairy country in another state, the newly born male calves were picked up to be taken to the meat processors. One farmer told they were turned into salami or pepperoni because with their young bones and tendons, they could be ground up whole.
@vincemajestyk94972 жыл бұрын
@@Stan-at-KangarooIslandTV Ain't that the truth (turning vegetatian). For years, a couple, maybe 3 decades I curbed my meat intake and cut out beef completely, no processed meats. Beef is really the worst meat to digest and healthwise. Of course, now choice is a luxury most people can't afford. I'll never forget this. A really long time ago ('83 or so) when I was in the Navy stationed at Mare Island (Vallejo) I ordered a pizza from this celebrated place called Armadillo's. The very first bite of the very first piece I got a piece of bone in the sausage and it ruined the whole pizza for me. It was a really great pizza otherwise.

@@Stan-at-KangarooIslandTV Yah, Hot Dogs are disgusting. In NYC they call them 'Dirty Water Dogs' because of the boiled water they cook in in the street vendor carts. The difference in the consistency of the 'liquid' thats in the current can is somewhat due to temperature i think. Might be due to variation in the levels of connective tissue rendered into the 'broth'. If you chill a current can and open it next to a room temp, see if that makes a difference.
