I'm from the UK and I was born in 1968 with both Spina Bifida and hydrocephalus. However when my initial shunt surgery was done the tubing was sent to the heart (VA) and not the preferred VP route as Dr Warf suggests. When I was 13-14 I developed a blockage and the shunt was replaced however the tubing was not sent to the heart this time but the peritoneal cavity (VP). Both surgeries were done by the same neurosurgeon. Why do you think he chose VA if VP was the preferred location of tubing the first time around?
