Hi, nice video! I want to do something similar on my boat. I wonder how straight forward is it once you have connected the NMEA cables to the USB? Does it recognize the signals of all the different instruments automatically? do you select them from some list of preinstalled instruments? Or does one have to translate these NMEA signals for the readings? Thanks!

NMEA 0183 signals start with a 5 letter sentence designator. The first 2 letters are the sending device designator. The next 3 are the type of message. The openplotter software has a setup where each device can be set to listen for another certain 2 digit device or 3 digit sentence and respond appropriately.
