What I love about the blues is that it’s a style of music that you can make as simple, or as complicated as you want to harmony wise. As a guitar player I love finding new ways to play blues. It’s a very old style of music, but it’s the gift that keeps on giving.

I used to play piano with some Chicago blues players when they toured Brazil, and one of our famous sayings was: "Blues is the easiest style of music to play... poorly."

I was practicing with the transcriptions. Im thankful for the work that was done but there are some mistakes (no porblem, it happens) for exemple in bar 56 in Edim7 chord its written an F instead of a G, also in bar 56 i belive Emmet plays a Db instead of a Bb in the first bass chord of the bar. Great great video, i didnt know anything about blues and this is defenetly helping me starting out! ty!

I permanently injured my left pinky, making it literally impossible to hit those. Def hurts for sure, but you don’t need them by any stretch. There are amazing musicians out there who are never able to hit those. Mess around and play with what works for your range or reach.

Insightful lesson, thanks for breaking it down showing all those passing notes in the LH, Emmet. How important those bass notes are to moving music forward! 🎹 (I wish I didn't have to butterfly my 10ths - they give a rich solid sound for solo piano stride - but you showed more options using octaves and shells alternating with chords in the latter part of your lesson for those of us with smaller hand spans)
