Excellent. In my Berklee arranging classes, we were taught drop 3, but to replace the new second and third notes with tensions whenever possible.

You really chose a great person musician, activist poet, and a rapper some rappers used sample her songs. Great job and I love that Gospel Music.

I heard Dr. Billy Taylor play this when I was 9 and said, "I want to play piano like that!" Was a minute before I heard Nina's version...and love both versions

Adam, once again you demonstrate your ability to turn material like this into teachable moments. Bravo. If I could get with you in real time at the same piano I would surely take lessons.

This is so good. Just the other night at a gig someone requested a Nina Simone song. I want to learn this on my wife Virginia Rush is our vocalist. I choose this .... Thanks

3:51 The song credits list Barry Beckett on keys for _“Still Crazy After All These Years”;_ Richard Tee is only credited for _“Gone at Last”,_ but that is certainly as wonderfully Gospel as it gets :D

There's another live (video) version of Nina doing this song live in concert where she plays the intro in a beautiful bouncing stride style, and adds an extra solo chorus before starting to sing. Very different feeling from this version, and also shows her musical and pianistic versatility. Highly recommended! Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKKWpJd8Zb6Loa8

Is there any way of getting access to Adam's Soundslices? I am slow to read piano music on the grand staff, so I guiltily like to use Soundslice for those orange and purple light up keys! Lol. Anybody know if Adam shares these? Or should I just keep trying to read this stuff slowly af?

One question? Is Adam reading it at first sight? It took me 2 days to play the first 8 bars decently!
@adammaness3 жыл бұрын
I learned this a while ago and have been playing along with the record the last few weeks. Definitely not reading it for the first time!

Thank you for your answer, Adam. It is difficult for a beginner to have an idea of what is "normal" and what is not.

So what's the difference between drop 2 and 3? The number of notes in the chord (5v4)?
@robertgloverjr3 жыл бұрын
Soprano=1, tenor=2, baritone=3, bass=4. Think of drop 2 as “drop tenor”. Drop 3 is “drop baritone”.
@StewartEngart3 жыл бұрын
@@robertgloverjr but in both you're dropping the second lowest voice?
