Thank you Lee for the clearest explanation of D16 failsafe! This is my first time setting failsafe on FrSky and have only used ImmersionRc or Crossfire which are very easy to set up.
@ChrisBalmforth5 жыл бұрын
I use the FRSky stabilised receivers a lot for the panic switch capability. With these I set a Custom failsafe which turns on auto-levelling, sets throttle to -100%, ailerons and elevator to 0% (i.e. centred) and sets rudder to +100%. The intention is that when the plane loses signal it spirals gently down to the ground somewhere around it's last known position without self destructing. Thankfully I've never actually had to see it working!
@paulg54375 жыл бұрын
Chris, you might want to try in manually. Even when using a Gyro/Stabilizer I've had planes go into a spiraling death dive with full rudder held on.

@@paulg5437 That's a good point Paul, I'll try it and maybe change the amount of rudder I set. Thanks!

@TheChrisBalmforth have you had a fail safe condition in the last 3 years? Interested in an update. I agree with previous comment, full rudder might be a lot. When I'm setting up mine, I'm thinking of giving something around 10% rudder.

When I was flying FM 72mHz, well before quads, flight controllers and any form of stability other than heli gyros, I had a receiver that had 2 fail safes. One was neutral throttle off, and Hold. Hold would hold a preset value like custom does. You were to set your Tx to Hold for that function IF your TX COULD be set to Hold. LOL! The next up RX had Neutral, Hold, and Last. I guess Hold in Open Tx is like Last in that old Rx. Thanks for this video. I am still new to Open TX, and it is a serious learning curve.

👍 thanks. I'm only have multirotors and I'm setting my failsave to off. But I know some people setting it to go to stabilize mode and hold throttle to 50% for certain amount of time. It allows drone got strait up with a hope to recover signal from transmitter.
@paulg54375 жыл бұрын
I'd also suggest that after setting the value, test the failsafe with the prop removed. I've seen some motors go to full power when the TX is turned off especially with the multiprotocol model. Ditto for an arm switch.

I'd check how the failsafe is set for those recievers. Some (like Spektrum) only store the failsafe on binding.. the of luck !

This was really helpful. I just get up my T16 so kopilot switches to RTH when I lose signal. I used custom [set] so I have 50% throttle and the position on the 3 position switch that's set to RTH.
@Painless3604 жыл бұрын
No need to set throttle to anything apart from zero. It's safer that way and the Kopilot will control the throttle during RTH...

Would you clarify one thing for me. I am using the Matek F405/TBS Crossfire with Inav and I have always set my transmitter it the setting I would want for failsafe. IE ARMED and MODE set to RTH and then set failsafe on my receiver. Have tested in the air and it works. So when you are using FrSky X series RX and the CUSTOM/SET method is it down loading these settings onto the RX same as setting TX to ARMED/RTH and then setting FS on RX.

Thanks so much for the video and all the other videos! I used Custom method for Failsafe but it seems to not work. I have a Jumper T12, Jumper R8 receiver and Pixhawk 2.4.8 running MP 1.3.76 and Arducopter V4.0.7. My Channel 5 is Flight Mode with position 3 as RTL. In Faisafe settings on my Jumper T12, I changes the value for Channel 5 to 100. With props off, I armed the quadopter, gave 20% throttle and then turned off the transmitter. Mission Planner showed that the quad went to "Land" mode and not RTL. Flight Modes window also showed Current Mode set to "Land". What am I doing wrong? Please advise.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this only applies when you're in D16 mode. If you're using a D8 receiver (hey some of us still use some of those!) then the only way that I know of to set the failsafes is via the failsafe button on the receiver.

@@Painless360 Awesome thanks for the link- is shows there that Failsafe is supported from Channel 9 to 16, but O don't know what that means. I changed the channel range to be from 9 to 20, but the failsafe potion did not appear?
@Rektrishun5 жыл бұрын
I've heard that setting your radio to HOLD while using a flight controller is preferable because when you loose signal, it will repeat the failsafe flag over and over again. Maybe i did not understand correctly?
@Painless3605 жыл бұрын
Depends on the system youre using. Because the failsafe is detected and the FC is told via the failsafe flag immediately - it depends on how the flight controller handles it. Things like the Vector advise no pulses and things like iNav have a timeout before the failsafe action is initiated (stage 1 in BF).. I'd always err on the side of caution with failsafe and test rigorously. Happy flying!
@amax26245 жыл бұрын
With Inav and Frsky this is my preferred failsafe. For the first time, I set the failsafe command for a test on a switch and later I testet this by switching the transmitter off, it worked all the time > RTH. But you must have set the failsafe on the fc correctly. Since I am not using any other fc system and not Flysky, which had issues with the failsafe, I stay there.
