OpenWRT - Install X-WRT on Xiaomi Router 3 via TFTP

i have tplink archer c9 v1, its have ddwrt on it, do you know simple method to install openwrt or other wrt on it?, because the only method i found on utube require disassemmble and put some cable, like what u do to this router

Nope, for this device you just need to setup the TFTP server, rename the openwrt factory firmware to archerc9v1_tp_recovery.bin and start the recovery process on the router. Once entered recovery mode, the router will automatically download the OpenWRT firmware and install it. You only need serial console when reverting from customer firmware (OpenWRT) to stock.

just two questions: 1) If I want to revert back the original stock firwmare, can I use the same procedure? Where can I find the stock rom? 2) Can you give a try to the VPN client speed through OpenVPN? Best

1. No, you need to use Mi Debrick Tool and download stock firmware from miuirom.org/miwifi/mi-router-3 2. I am no longer using this device, the OpenVPN throughput should be around 8 - 10 Mbps.

Hi, it is working so far. Did you flash the correct firmware version - There are Xiaomi Router 3, Xiaomi Router 3G which is easy to mesh up the name.

@@VanTechCorner yeah did all correctly and came back to original firmware now, better performance but not that configurable as custom firmware.

For some devices, stock firmware has better wifi performance as the driver is closed-source. OpenWRT only use open-source driver and this is where the problem comes.

Hi, you can directly flash the system upgrade image of OpenWRT on the router (since X-WRT is a fork of OpenWRT) and I believe the flash layout should be the same.

If you got kernel error during installation any software, please update the openwrt to the latest version and it should work.

The simplest way is to get the access via console (UART) and then run the factory reset command with CLI. openwrt.org/toh/xiaomi/xiaomi_redmi_router_ac2100#serial

Hi bro, see u again. Is it possible to use this method to recover my mi4a gigabit looks like bricked. Cannot boot up neither to 192.168.31.1 and openwrt 192.168.1.1. Is it bootloader fail? I brick my router after wrongly flash firmware. I use tiny pxe and miwifi repair tools. Both tools failed.😵

Hi, yes please give it a try. A USB to TTL (UART or Serial) adapter is very helpful when working with router and other SBC devices. When you have a picture of what is going on with the device from console, then you can move to the next step of fixing it.

I find the X-WRT firmware is a very poor performer on my WRT1900ACS V2. Very slow wired speeds. :( Check out my video on it, if you dont believe me. This is just on my Router, could be different mileage to yours though???

Hey, why you are using X-WRT instead of OpenWRT. What is the CPU usage when you run the speedtest? From what I know, Linksys router is made for OpenWRT and it should work well.

Hi, If have a tutorial for USB Tethering with OpenWRT and you can try that to share the internet from your phone to other devices connected to the router. The same for Raspberry Pi, configure USB Tethering with OpenWRT installed, and connect the LAN port of the Pi to a switch, it will do the job

Chào bạn, Xiaomi Router 3 vẫn chưa được hỗ trợ chính thức bởi OpenWRT. Hiện tại chỉ có Pandavan và X-WRT, nhưng con này cài không có Serial (UART TTL) rất dễ bị lỗi và hư thiết bị. Cách tốt nhất vẫn là trang bị header và Adapter USB TLL (hoặc bạn mua dây cắm có đầu móc để không cần hàn).
