Solved the problem by adding " opkg install kmod-usb-net-cdc-ncm " by ssh. That added " usb0" and once configured it works. Thanks Van Tech enjoying your instructional - well presented videos.

I tried the 4G USB Modem (ALK Mobile Broadband) and it works with Tethering mode surprisingly.

It's totally doable, and in fact I am using it right now. Only problem is the cell limits. I have 2 cellular devices with 2 billing accounts. One gives me like 5MB/s max download speeds and the other 12.

Using the OpenWRT package manager via LuCI or opkg CLI, install the iptables-mod-ipopt package. Navigate to Network → Firewall → Custom Rules. Add the following line: iptables -t mangle -I POSTROUTING -o usb0 -j TTL --ttl-set 65 Click Restart Firewall to save If necessary, change usb0 to wlan0 (or whichever interface name corresponds to your tether interface.)

I'm struggling using my android as modem using usb tethering. It's easy actually if i use command usb shell to activate the rndis. But, every time the openwrt boot up, i need to use this command. So, i decided to use macro droid to activate automatically usb tethering, and hotspot tether. It works, but only hotspot tethering. Then, i ask chat gpt the command so the openwrt will send adb shell command automatically when the Android or openwrt reboot. But yeah, it's not working. So, now, I'm using usb modem.

Work correctly with tplink wdr3600 , we need only this command: opkg update opkg install kmod-usb-net-rndis When you don't use usb, click stop on usb interface and restart WAN interface

Thank you for this instructional & detailed video. I followed & installed on my Linksys WRT3200ACM running a new installation of OpenWrt ( current Feb 2023 ). Open Wrt is working fine with my wired ethernet - using "WAN" connection. I have added a new interface - " usb tethering" and configured ( while connected to my Google Pixel 7Pro). The options are for Ethernet Switch:"eth0: (usbtethering). No option for " ethernet adapter: "eth0". Although I can connect my phone to my laptop -using the phone with "usb tether" . I can not get the WRT3200ACM to pass the usb phone hot spot into the router? Using the same cable which is good. When I connect my wired connection to the router on WAN port - I get connected to the internet. On CMD line I see media disconnect and can not ping out. Any help would be appreciated. I did see one problem below by another person -Andrea Buttafava -one month ago but did not see a fix. Thanks Dan

So I'm at the point to ask Mr. Van Tech Corner or anyone else here, who may know, is it possible to make this work on router with 32MB available RAM and only 4MB FLASH memory (which is maybe not sufficient for installation packages?). To be precise, I would like to implement this method on my router TP LINK TL-MR3420, hardware version MR3420 V2, firmware version 3.16.9 Build 150319 Rel.60489n. I would be grateful for someone who knows, for sure, is this possible (and stable after doing the procedure)?

Hi, that is the requirements for latest OpenWRT supports. You can install OpenWRT on the MR3420 v2 but the latest version you can have is 17.01.5. I managed to install the packages to get a 2016 iPhone SE (ios 15) to work on my Asus RT-AC51U using USB tether but have an issue where internet through lan or wifi will only open google search pages, if I try to run say speed test it times out and states there is no internet. If I connect the phone via USB direct to my laptop I get 30+ Mbit and speedtest works. If I connect my Android phone via usb to the router with the same sim I get 20+ Mbit either wifi or lan. I have checked the iPhone and made sure Low data mode is turned off. Would this be an issue with ios 15.4? or the interface settings? or an I just missing something? Any help would be appreciated. Hi, - Did you setup DNS forwarding server on the OpenWRT. If not, you can go to Network - DHCP & DNS and configure it there. - If you can share the internet from iPhone to PC via USB cable, the tethering is working fine for the iPhone and it doesn't relate to iOS. - If the above didn't work, can you share the screenshot of the ifconfig & route command of the OpenWRT router?

I have no idea how to do it and assume you may give a try if you have root access to your phone. USB ethernet to smarphone tethering, yes we can do this but on the other way I haven't found a solution. The easiest way is to start the wifi hotspot on your phone (5 GHz) and set your openwrt as an AP client. It should work well.

I followed this tutorial and I must say it is well done congratulations VAN TECH! However I am not able to connect my Xiaomi Mi A3 phone and my daughter's phone which is a Xiaomi MI 11 lite. The USB port of the router (an old Pirelli DRG A226M) is seen by the phone but when I enable the "usb tehering" mode nothing happens, the WAN_usb0 port remains disabled. Even trying with different cables. These two phones when connected directly to the PC via usb tethering work perfectly . No problem instead with all the other phones I tested such as Xiaomi Mi A2 lite, several Samsung (J3, Galaxy S3, S4 mini and A7) and Realme 9. What could be the reasons why these two phones fail to connect to the router? Thank you very much

Hi, sorry for the late response, did you fix it? Can you check if the USB tethering is working on your Laptop/PC (disconnect the WiFi/Ethernet cable, connect the phone to PC with USB cable and turn on USB tethering).

Hello i have an Nokia 7.1 and i woud like to use its usb port with an USB C-to Rj45 Adaprter, then connect a cable from that port to the wan port of the router with open wrt, is that possible ? my router does not have usb port.

Hi, it depends on your phone, not the router. From the router perspective it is still the ethernet connection to WAN port, you can set it to DHCP client protocol to have a working internet connection.

Before this command, you need to have working internet connection (WAN) and run the opkg update first, only then you can install these packages. If it still doesn't work, it is something wrong with your OpenWRT build (outdated version or snapshot build for example) and you need to find a way to troubleshoot further
