Sir vertically upward motion cannot initial velocity can be zero because initially without any accleration the object couldn't go up ward. So I think initial velocity is not zero in second case

Sir when an object is thrown vertically upwards initial velocity never would be zero, only final velocity would zero . This was because when an object is thrown vertically upwards it need a certain velocity to oppose the positive gravitational force . I think the thing which you concluded u =0 is wrong and it must be changed to v = 0
