The two "calamity" songs have bunch of leitmotifs in them for one main reason. They are the theme of Calamitas in one way or another. *She is the one who caused the calamity.* She boiled the former sea into the sunken sea, she massacred the denizens of the underworld, leaving the brimstone crags barren and the brimstone elemental alone. Even if she was commanded to do so by someone else, she was the hand that clawed through the world to leave it as is today. Any other aspect of tragedy in the world either caused itself or were caused by her commander directly, Yharim the tyrant.
@EnzoZambrotti2 жыл бұрын
Also to note the Second Half of Antarctic Reinforcement also has the Calamitas leitmotif, probably because Permafrost and Calamitas are oposites, also it ties to not only their elements but their connection to Yharim (I think idk, might be talking out my ass)

This is an unpopular opinion but I actually love Toxic Wisdom (theme of the old duke). It's musically very interesting and I think it's one of the most character-driven pieces in the whole OST. The very subtle BPM changes in the drumbeat can give the impression of a slowing heartbeat. Or the distorted trumpet, giving a sense that something is off or not as it once was. It all really gives the impression that the creature you're fighting is certainly mighty but at the very last stage of its life. you can hear the struggle to stay elegant in the music itself, or as DM Dokuro puts it in the description, "a fading legend".
@tgr98572 жыл бұрын
It mirrors of what dokuro felt at the time, the toxicity eating him away and decaying his overall manner. The toxicity causing anger but also grief. His intense remorseful but resentful feelings displayed through the trumpets, and the guitar showing anger, as the drums show decay

@@derflerp538 can you clarify what you mean by that? I'm not all that involved in the Calamity community anymore, but from what I heard it was the fans who were incredibly demanding and toxic toward Dokuro, especially on Stained Brutal Calamity, despite he saying that rushing the final boss track would lead to an unsatisfactory product when expectations were so high. Sure he could've handled it better, but I really don't think it's his fault or "mishandling the fame". Dokuro wasn't getting paid for the Calamity OST, it was a fan project and he made songs for it for years despite mental health issues (I believe he's on the autistic spectrum?) so I'm really not sure how it's his fault. The reason Guardian of the Desert Seas is desperate sounding is because before the calamity, giant Sea Worms were the dominant creatures of the ocean. In the mod, we see 3 incarnations of the worms, though none of them are the original, those being the Eidolon Worm (Postgame Superboss and deep-sea adaptation of the worms) the Aquatic Scourge (Denizen of the ruined sulfurous seas, all acidified and mutated) and the Desert Scourge, the boss the theme is for, which lives in the deserts which were previously oceans that were scorched to nothing by calamitas. Names aside, it is clear the first offshoots are pure enough to retain the great strength of their forebears. Naturally, this led them to be targeted by cruel divine mandates, and most were hunted to extinction. It is known that Fishrons, Follies, and the Abyssal Wyrms survived the purging hunts of the Deific Era. Notably, they now are all reclusive or exceedingly violent. It is tragic how they evolved to be that way." I than you very much for listening to this OST, It's my favorite OST of all time and it's criminally underrated, and honestly. Calamity is basically my favorite thing to play, and despite its flaws that people complain about constantly I still really enjoy playing it. Same with Terraria in general. Sadly DM DOKURO is no longer the composer for Calamity due to the community, but the new composers are also extremely talented. You did miss a couple songs that are part of the official soundtrack, they aren't on the KZbin playlist but they are in-game, but you only missed 3 which is just the Boss Rush Tier 1,2 and 3 themes. But you can react to those whenever you want, you should also do Cosmic Disgust eventually, It was part of the official soundtrack until Astrageldon Slime got removed in favor of Astrum Aureus. Also threats of the Ocean, it was the theme for the enjmies in the final layer of the abyss but it never got implemented. Also I would love to see you react to Nightmare Fabrications once CDMusic finishes it, it will be the official theme for the Exo Mechs since inferior fabrications is a placeholder.But aside from all that thank you very much for listening to this OST, it made me really happy to see everyone enjoying this OST. Never heard any of these tracks but Slime God (so far) goes hard! Edit: Thanks for the like Marco! I feel that ‘desperation’ as well and it’s almost like you as the character knew it’d be a battle but didn’t think it would be as intense as it ends up being so it’s like fighting a God… then again it’s not the first you’ve destroyed yet it’s still a challenge.

What I really like about the Aquatic Scourge and Desert Scourge is that they are both of the same species, only one founds its way to the Sulphuric Sea and the other the Desert (its former sea). One a Shell of its Former self living as a Husk in an Ocean that evaporated long ago, and the other Alone, the only member of its species to inhabit the Sulphurous Seas, because in the game the Aquatic Scourge doesn’t attack the player when it appears, its just swimming around, sad and alone, and only engages when attacked. I love the energy of both songs and I love how DM Dokuro uses the same leitmotifs and somehow makes them connected but also conveying entirely different emotions: Solitude and Desperation, Rage and Somberness. DM Dokuro made an outstanding ost.

As for the desert scourge, it's a dried up husk of what it used to be. In the desert where you fight it. There is a biome underneath the desert called the sunken sea. (And yes. It sunk.) I believe the reasoning for the sinking is when yharim burned out one of the main seas with calamitas. (As I stated beforehand) causing the sea that's found under the desert to dry up. Now on the topic of the sunken sea, I actually don't know much about it. I know that there's new lore but... I'm lazy. The desert scourge, it used to florish. It had deep blue skin and it was never hungry. But, as the sea... sunk, it became a dried husk of its former self. Always hungry for the life in the desert is always fleeting. Trivia: the old sprite for the desert scourge was blue! But they changed it later down the line to a brown husk. To match its lore. (On the topic of the sunken sea. It pretty much became a paradise. It's very pretty in-game.) [ also I love its theme so much its a top pick as background music for... anything, videos, lounging. Etc...] ALSO on that topic. Dmdokuro is 100% okay with people using his music. Just... don't repost it. And state your sources (like a middle school essay or something) that should cover any confusion on the desert scourge and the sunken sea.

But i think that Blood Coagulant is actually 11/4, or in groups of 8/4 and 3/4, sequentially; Its a time singature so bizarre that when you starts jamming to it and realizes like "hey, It's asymetric!" 7 months late but the Perforator Hive theme is just amazing. Starting off with what sounds like screaming (arguably the echoes of the deceased Crimson God) to hard metal (reminiscent of a DOOM track sounding monstrous and demonic) to somber notes, almost mourning the death of the being that led to the Crimson’s creation and creating a blight upon the world. I’m not good at analyzing themes but this theme really stands out symbolically imo.

The entire calamity lore is built off of the player character is a guy who randomly came in and started killing everyone. And like all the music is from the perspective of the boss’s where you find them all like desperate and scared and it ramps up all the way through the whole game. Its just amazing because it gives a light into the eyes of the bosses in the game who dont really get much depth usually.
