You were *very close* with your guess on the state of the fight come Forbidden Lullaby. Anahita doesn't become the Leviathan,nor is she eaten by it. The Leviathan joins the fight to support Anahita,turning the fight into an absolutely CHAOTIC 2v1.

Quick summary of the lore: Anahita is pretty much just a siren. Leviathan is an extremely large fish that became so dominant in its ecosystem and ate so much that it actually became physically incapable of getting its own food (he became quite the chunky boy). The Siren befriends the Leviathan, and the Siren lures sailors in to get gulped in by the Leviathan. They are basically extremely close (Leviathan gets food and Anahita gets a huge fish pal?). In this fight you battle both of them at the same time, first 2 tracks are just fighting Anahita and for Forbidden Lullaby, the Leviathan comes out from the water and you fight both at the same time.

There was a part early on, when the Leviathan was more dominant, where it distracted the other sirens, and Anahita used that chance to steal their trident and make her getaway. Those sirens had quite the dystopia going on. She promised that she would help the Leviathan if she ever got the chance. So, she helps it eat, it helps her fight.

There are two variations for the lore of Anahita and the Leviathan. Originally, it was a mermaid that rebelled against her society and formed a symbiotic relationship with a dying leviathan, helping it find food in exchange for protection. Now, Anahita is simply a lure that the Leviathan puts out; a hyper evolved take on the concept of the anglerfish. The song ls were written before the lore was changed.

I love that when you listened to the entire Calamity ost, you instantly pointed out the songs the community considered best. Sometimes, its random what songs become a hit, but for DM Dokuro it's usually pretty unanimous which ones the top five are. (The fifth one you havent reviewed, Infestation is an absolute techno bop.) I think this one takes second place for me, but this song is one of the reasons the Anahita Leviathan fight is so tough: it's hard to do mechanics when you're crying!

Have just started replaying calamity, this time on the "getfixedboi" seed for a tougher challenge. Will definitely give more appreciation to the music this time around, I get a real emotional reaction from thinking about the context of music. On a tangent, every day I wake up hoping to see a video from you on Octopath 2's final boss theme, "Vide, the Wicked". Easily one of the best video game operas I've heard, up with Octopath 1's final boss, and God Shattering Star.

It is fine to play Octopath 2 first by the way, it is the better of the two games - and takes place in a separate world, with totally different stories. Easily my #1 RPG of all time, even ahead of Chrono Trigger.

4:28 so the three acts in the trilogy are for different points during the interaction between anahita (siren) and subsequently leviathan act i: when the player is in the ocean biome, a mysterious siren named ??? can spawn. when it does, this theme plays somewhat as a way for the player to search around and stumble across it act ii: when the player defeats the siren, anahita spawns, in which the music begins to pick up act iii: finally in the second phase, anahita vanishes and leviathan spawns, you fight him for a bit, and then anahita returns and you fight both until they are both defeated

I never beat calamity but when i played it i remember seeing the siren and my friend attacks her and suddenly we get jumpscared by the leviathan and i think they just killed us. Funny as hell moment but i believe their lore is absolutely depressing. The theme is truly great

I'm pretty sure Anahita is completely passive until attack, so the feeling of "She doesn't want to fight" is accurate, and I think the sorrow might have to with her not wanting Leviathan to come to harm? Or the other way, since Leviathan comes to her aid, he doesn't want her to die. This is mostly speculation, I don't remember Anahita's lore, but I really enjoy the fight

The sorrow I speculate is that she can no longer live where she originally did for so long, being the Abyss. Her and the Leviathan had to leave the abyss after Silva's vines had begun to take major hold there, and I dunno bout you but if me and my fish friend got evicted by the posthumous magic of a long dead god, I'd be pretty sad.

This boss/theme is beautiful!! It awakened my love for mermaids and this theme is just cool and flows with the boss fight perfect! Your by the ocean, you hear this pretty melody and head into the water looking for the source of it, seeing this pare of eyes as you get closer the music gets louder until this silhouette is more clear, if youu hurt it or touch it them the fight starts, chill but challenging, then it picks up and get harder new attacks as the mermaid shows their full power… THEN GOLIATH JOINS

Actually almost none of the bosses want to actively fight the player. A lot of them suffered tramatic changes from a time before the player comes, and their present form is a reminder of what had been...

I think this is when Calamity's story really starts kicking off. Before this you could kind of connect together themes. But it was like trying to understand Dark Souls on a first playthrough. I kind of hope they flesh out the early game in Calamity a bit more on that front. Technically Slime God is like the first true major story related boss but I doubt many even know that. A lot of this music was actually made before the lore was really fleshed out. And they used the music as ques for the direction of the story. Like really. All they had when Calamity was first started was Calmaitas and Yharim (which is supposed to be the real final boss that hasn't been made yet). Story was pretty much just big bad wants to rule the world.

At the start, Anahita is just peacefully singing at the bottom of the ocean with her harp, but the player has the choice to interrupt her by hurting her and then the battle starts. I believe she really did not want to fight, but there was no way to stop the player. After all, she calls the Leviathan. The connection between Anahita and the Leviathan is interesting. The Leviathan once was a very territorial creature in the abysm, eating anyone or anything that it get near to it. Then, Leviathan ran out of food and started to get weaker over time. One day, Anahita appeared with curiosity and the Leviathan tried to eat her, but she just dodged the attack without any problem. The visits of Anahita became frequent and every time, the Leviathan tried to eat her, but after many tries, the Leviathan gave up and let Anahita be with it. One day, the Leviathan couldn't swim anymore due to the lack of food and energy. The Leviathan fell into the abyss near death. With their eyes almost closing, the Leviathan saw Anahita approaching with a bunch of dead fishermen and other ocean creatures. Anahita slowly started to feed the Leviathan with the food that was found on the surface of the ocean. The Leviathan could swim again, but it realized that now, the only good way to get food was going to a way upper layer of the ocean. As a way to get out of the abyss, they swam up, but in a desperate, the Leviathan lost half of its body after getting hit by an underwater cliff. The Leviathan survived because it was a very strong creature. Then, Anahita and the Leviathan got to the surface of the ocean, and the Leviathan managed to get used to hunting fishermen and the ocean creatures.

I hope you don't mind just a recommendation without much comment on the actual video, but you should do an episode on Half-Life. The soundtrack is on the smaller side and has a lot of ambient audio, but the handful of songs in the games are wonderful. Drums & Riffs from HL1, Storm from Opposing Force, and Vortal Combat from HL2 are some of my favorites, but I recommend checking out the entire HL1 soundtrack, skipping over the ambients if needed. Having played and beaten the Calamity mod a few times over, I have to say, whenever I come back to its music and gameplay I forget that it's a MOD and not part of the base game. Everything about it is so heartfelt and well fleshed-out. The desperate sadness of the Leviathan fight is conveyed SO WELL through the fight theme that you can vicariously fight it through just listening to it. Absolutely amazing soundtrack, and so happy people are finally recognizing it!!
