@jerrispaulding6272 жыл бұрын
If you stay with Martina then you must do Independence Day and Broken Wing. Both are heavy but signature songs of hers. For a few lighter ones by her try When God Fearing Women Get the Blues, This One’s for the Girls, and/or My Baby Lives Me. Moving away from Martina I would suggest Kathy Mattea. 16 Wheels and a Dozen Roses, Rocket, Where’ve You Been. Have tissues for Where’ve You Been.

I was that little girl over 60 years ago. No one talked about child abuse. There was no help for me. I survived by learning to leave the house by 7 AM, when my mother got off work. I would get myself up dressed to school. I would not go home until after 11 PM when she had to be at work. It wasn’t easy, but I’m still alive. I out lived my abuser, some would call my mother. Do not pity me. I survived! I’ve loved. I have known peace. I learned that no matter what happens, a person can survive with determination.
@elliejodoin77897 ай бұрын

One thing that I have never forgotten what Martina McBride and Keanu Reeves did for me and several other children in the early 2000s. Was when they donated Christmas presents to us at the shelter we were staying at. It was one where they place children in state custody in between foster homes or just being removed from their homes. I was the oldest kid there that year. I had already been a fan of hers for several years before this. I had been a fan Keanu Reeves since he did Bill and Ted along with Parenthood. Besides this song another great one is God's Will. I'm Going To Love You Through It is also another wonderful one.

I'm 60 years old. During my life I have been an M1 Tank Commander, and retired from Corrections. I have seen things that have made me extremely ambivalent to human tragedy. I guess it's a coping mechanism or something. I have probably listened to this song at least 20 times. And each time I end up with tears streaming down my face. But I do have to say.... I'm glad no one made a big deal or called the police every time I showed up for grade school with bruises or scrapes. Gotta have empathy for teachers (at least the ones who care about kids and not about grooming them) trying to walk this tightrope balancing act.

When I fled my husband, the courts granted a protection order for our 3 children and me and then granted him unsupervised visitation. It took 8 1/2 years and everything I owned to stop visits in spite of the court's and his therapists begging the courts to stop it. The older 2 were beated on occassion and the youngest was neglicted like she didn't exist. I found this song during that time (early 2000s) and it still makes me cry. People did come forward to help and nothing mattered or stopped it. It ruined me for life (I'm on disability for PTSD) not to mention what it did to the now adult kids who barely function. This song is how I feel a lot of the times when trying to deal with memories. None of us died physically but emotionally... I'm glad you reacted to this one.

The boy who was a ghost of a child who was abused comes to her and in the final scene takes her to play with the ghosts of many other children who were also abused. It was only after her death that she was "taken to a place where she's loved". So sad. I don't know how anyone could watch that and not cry. I certainly cried and it definitely is not the first time I have seen this video. The lyrics are haunting and Martina's beautiful voice is just the crowning touch to this unforgettable song.

Martina McBride is a beautiful singer. This song is so hard to listen to because anytime a child loses their life to abuse is such a sad reality. Years ago I lived in an apartment with a roomate and often heard screaming and crying coming from the apartment below us. We had seen the little girl before but never saw bruises. She was a very polite kid and acted like all was ok. One night we could not take it anymore because it sounded worse. My rommate and I called 911. Police came and her parents were taken away. Turned out that before that night the child suffered verbal abuse, but that night is escalated and she was hit. I am glad that we made that call. We found out later from the landlord that the girl was taken in by her grandmother who took great care of her.

Martina McBride's been in the industry for a long time and has released music that touches on human experiences and themes especially ones that hit home like these for many. Independence Day, Broken Wings, etc. she's sung about different forms of hardship and with such voice that can carry the message across. The music video for this just elevates her message, doesn't it? Got me some tears 7am here in Guam. Cant believe this song was released 2002 and it still sounds timeless even in 2022.

The first time, I ever even heard of Martina McBride, she was performing as a fill in artist as the headliners took a break. It was in a Theater-in-The Round venue, with a rotating stage. Martina stepped on stage, on the opposite side from me (about 60 feet away) and her piercing blue eyes were striking, even at that distance. Her singing was absolutely captivating. What those that never got into country music don't know is... it is not just some of the best story telling, but there are SO many songs that will literally bring you to tears. For example, Lonestar's "I'm Already There". There are two forms of music that can bring me to tears: classical (for the shear power of the instruments) and country (for the lyrics).
