I was this child and I survived. A lot of people who suffered this pain then go on and do it to their children. Break the cycle and be better. Always an amazing song. Such a powerful voice and message.

I’m so sorry you experienced this. I was this child too. My parents were divorced when I was very young but although I loved my mom it was neglect when I was with her because she was an addict. When I went to my dads it was physical abuse from him and physical and psychological from who I call my evil stepmother. I have a mind full of mental health issues now with my biggest struggles being PTSD (or CPTSD now) and Major Depressive disorder. But I 100% agree that we have to break that cycle. There’s no way I’d ever bring a child into this world knowing that I would make a terrible parent. I can’t imagine putting an innocent child through even a small percentage of what me and my siblings went through. Thank you for being better. I know for a fact that I’ll do my damnedest to be better too when I finally decide to have kids.

My heart hurts for the pain you guys endured but I am so happy you all survived and get to have 4:08 minutes where you feel seen, heard, and loved. It’s not an easy life, but these small moments where we get to acknowledge and comfort our little selves are so profound. Get your healing anyway you can and love yourself for what you survived. One of the scariest things right now about the shelter in place orders for COVID-19 is that kids are stuck in these houses now and parents who already had abusive tendencies are experiencing more stresses now. I remember seeing this music video on CMT as a small kid, and knowing it was sad, but not fully understanding. My mom was watching with me, and when I asked her about it, she had a strange reaction and wouldn't talk about it. We were at my grandparents house. Years later, I learned my mom lived the life of the girl in the song, abused at the hands of my awful grandmother. Nobody would help her or say anything, all too concerned with minding their own business. I'm glad they showed a woman as the abuser in this video, it's not acknowledged enough that women can be cruel and abusive too. I've decided to become an adoptive/foster parent, and help kids who've lived through these situations. If I can keep even one child from living through what my mother did, it will all be worth it.

Please, please be good to those kids don't give up on them altho it's ok to say I'm not the best person to help this particular child. Idk how much you know about the foster care system but..it's bad..really bad. These kids are terrified and have to toughen themselves up to survive the environment they're put in, both at home before and in foster after. It changes them, makes them not trust anyone as young children. Please try your best to make them feel loved and safe and *believed* in, they need it (esp those last two) more than you know. There are some whose parents love them deeply the system just won't let them be together like with illegal immigrants often times or those in extreme poverty, don't let them forget how much their parents love them and that there are still good ppl out there. Thank you for everything you do for them and thank you for sharing your story. It sounds like you had a wonderful mother who raised an equally wonderful daughter. Wishing you all the best take care and stay safe out there.

I was so lucky the abuse never got life threatening and that I was able to escape on a greyhound bus when I turned 17, but that doesn't make the trauma any easier to deal with. Remember listening to this song on repeat as a child, because of the abuse I went through. I just connected with the lyrics. Back then I always saw the lines "but her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved" as she flew to heaven. But as an adult those words have gotten another meaning to me. I wanted more out of life, I had ambitions.. and those things definitely let me to where I am today. I have a permanent bruise on my arm, people always ask if its my birth mark. No its my angel spot, my concrete angel. To everyone saying there is no such thing as a permanent bruise, thank you. I did not know the medical term.. I do not understand why the fuck it bothers you all so much about this comment. I wrote something in confidence about myself, I do not need someone from anywhere in the world to tell me what happened to me. I felt connected to the song, and that was the whole point. Did your parents not teach you speak if you're spoken to???

Child abuse is handed down from parent to child. They use abuse because that's how their parents handled it. Often drug abuse is a factor because it creates poor judgement. My own personal story as a teacher was while working in China, were they still practice corporal punishment, I went to the principal when I saw a teacher hitting a child with a book. I got that teacher fired, but her friends then got me fired . ( I got transferred over to the International department, where the younger staff (and better trained) don't practice corporal punishment.

She walks to school with the lunch She packed Nobody knows what she's Holdin' back Wearin' the same dress She wore yesterday She hides the bruises with linen And lace The teacher wonders but she Doesn't ask It's hard to see the pain Behind the mask Bearing the burden Of a secret storm Sometimes she wishes she was Never born Through the wind and the rain She stands hard as a stone In her world that she can rise above But her dreams give her wings And she flies to a place where She's loved Concrete angel Somebody cries in the middle Of the night The neighbors hear, but they turn Out the lights A fragile soul caught in the hands Of fate When morning comes It'll be too late Through the wind and the rain She stands hard as a stone In her world that she can rise above But her dreams give her wings And she flies to a place where She's loved Concrete angel A statue stands in a shaded place An angel girl with an upturned face A name is written on a polished rock A broken heart that the world forgot Through the wind and the rain She stands hard as a stone In her world that she can rise above But her dreams give her wings And she flies to a place where She's loved Concrete angel

This song as a mother of a daughter just hits even deeper man. I’ve always never been able to listen without crying but now it’s just too much. I’ve always believed some songs we have to force ourselves to listen to though if it’s difficult for us to hear just imagine how difficult it was to endure! This will forever be the hardest song and most powerful for me to listen too. The visuals paired with audio just broke my soul years ago when I first heard and saw it and it continues to have the same impact as that first viewing to me. Such a beautiful song on every level!

@TradingKid1998 Child abuse is actually really a serious problem, and yes, for you and all of the people who don't know, you actually CAN be beaten to death, so it is possible. It probably took them a lot of guts to share this online, as a lot of people will read their story. It isn't self-pity shit, it's called sharing a story. I take it you probably weren't abused, as a child, but if you think that they are just doing this for attention, and nothing else, then go watch something else instead of wasting your time over here making very rude comments and replies to people. Dude congrats you just wasted your time on that comment making a dumb statement.

I listened to this all the time as a kid and just randomly thought about it now and wanted to watch it again. As a child, it broke my heart thinking she didn't have a loving mommy. Now I'm a preschool teacher, and it breaks my heart even more thinking about that teacher (and the teachers in real life situations) not doing anything. As a teacher, we are mandated reporters and it is our JOB to report any kind of abuse we may see. I know this is a song/video but it showcases what happens some times in real life. It's disturbing and ugly and I just hope people want to reach out and help those they see that are in need. Especially a child.

That there were others like me, he of course suffered horribly. In those day 60s 70s no computer FB, 1-800 numbers to call for help, nobody talked about it, people didn't get involved

Lyrics: She walks to school with the lunch She packed Nobody knows what she's Holdin' back Wearin' the same dress She wore yesterday She hides the bruises with linen And lace The teacher wonders but she Doesn't ask It's hard to see the pain Behind the mask Bearing the burden Of a secret storm Sometimes she wishes she was Never born Through the wind and the rain She stands hard as a stone In her world that she can rise above But her dreams give her wings And she flies to a place where She's loved Concrete angel Somebody cries in the middle Of the night The neighbors hear, but they turn Out the lights A fragile soul caught in the hands Of fate When morning comes It'll be too late Through the wind and the rain She stands hard as a stone In her world that she can rise above But her dreams give her wings And she flies to a place where She's loved Concrete angel A statue stands in a shaded place An angel girl with an upturned face A name is written on a polished rock A broken heart that the world forgot Through the wind and the rain She stands hard as a stone In her world that she can rise above But her dreams give her wings And she flies to a place where She's loved Concrete angel

My Best Friend Jes same I've never been abused but everything I see or hear about a kid being abused I just want to pray and talk to god and ask him to help those kids that do get abused

The end part made me cry the most, the little boy had the same fate as the little girl, he too was abused and died then became an angel.. now that the girl also died, she too gained her wings and join the rest of the angels - kids who had the same fate as theirs as they happily walk the earth with no pain whilst looking after other kids who were going through the same horrible experience 😭

i’ve known this song since i was a child. i am currently pregnant with a baby girl and due in may. i could never imagine doing this to my child. this song is so powerful with emotion, and the saddest part is this happens everyday in our world. RIP to every single child that didn’t get to enjoy life because it was ripped away from them by the people who were suppose to love them! 🕊❤️

This song is beautiful and heartbreaking, goes to show not every person deserves a child. Children are blessings that are to be loved and protected by all means ❤

Just finished watching 'The Trials of Gabriel Fernández' on Netflix today too. This song just came into my head as my jaw dropped and my heart broke as I sat there in a state of shock, staring at the TV screen, mostly unable to comprehend completely what in the world had been done to such a sweet angel of a child. I still can't. Such a little boy. I still can't..i can't even imagine. I can't.

I can say the same thing not too long ago I was watching American crime which is based on the murder of Sylvia likens and I can't stop thinking about her and this song is just so heart-wrenching inside she died similarly like so many other kids

I've never been abused physically but my dad is very abusive verbally. Ever time I hear this song I cry. I can't imagine what its like for children to be abused and I just wish the world was a better place. If I could I would protect every child in the would from getting hurt. No one deserves that.

hj_dramalover101 2 Even though it's verbal it's still abuse. Unfortunately the law only covers physical abuse. (Though it should cover all types)

Man, this song hits hard when you’ve endured this throughout your childhood. No one came, no one cared, I just hid & endured until I was 18 and moved 3000 miles away from everyone to escape my childhood and to break the cycle. So grateful it stopped with me. My children never endured this and now my grandchildren do not. God has set me free.
