Since you like Gregorian chants, you may want to listen to a song by Enigma, called "Sadeness". It was a big hit back in 1990, and it kind of brought Gregorian chants to the mainstream.

Aha it is Peter Hollens, not Eric Hollaway - Sixteen Tons. Eric starts deeper and stays deeper. A true but unknown oktavist (lower than a Bass).

You should really listen to this with some decent monitors and a actual subwoffer instead of some shitty headphones and yes I don't care if they cost $20,000 they still don't come close to speakers and a sub.

12:36 - holy. crap. not ONE person called me out on that and you did... ev totally came in and sang that top note for me because I couldn't make it sound good enough.... (wifey is also a professional singer, and at the time our studio was in the garage so was easy to run into the kitchen and pull her in to sing it haahha)

Peter layered 128 tracts 64 of Tim and Peter singing. IF you watch Tim's shoulders from the LAST 20 Seconds you Will See his clothes Vibrate hard as Tim ROCKS the Cam with his voice. Tim was in the US Virgin Islands and Peter was in Ca. when they made this.
@ericpotter46572 жыл бұрын
Peter is a master at layerings music tracks and he used somewhere between 110 to 120 layers for the choral choir background vocals in this video. This was a masterpiece. Thank you for reacting to this and you should check out more of Peter and Tim collaborations. They have done at least 12 collaboration. You have a blessed day

@dagmar.69542 жыл бұрын
This is my favorite version of this song. The contrast in voices is beautiful. Peter in the higher tenor ranges & then paired with the true natural bass voice of Tim. And that last dragon's breath note is truly remarkable & how long he sustains it. Peter & Tim have collaborated on quite a few other songs & they are all beautiful. Peter is a master at layering voices. Check out "Sound Of Silence", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Greensleeves", "Fire & Rain", "Teach Your Children", "Sunshine On My Shoulders", "You Can Close Your Eyes", "And So It Goes" & "Blackbird".

Wasn’t that tremendous?!! This is from the Hobbit and I loved their film and costumes too. It’s hauntingly beautiful. Yes, Peter used 120 tracks. He’s incredible. If you watch Tim again you’ll see the camera shake on that last note. Amazing. They have many collaborations. I love And So It Goes and Greensleeves but they have others and they’re all good. They’ve also announced they’re doing an album too. Yay!!! Love your analysis. Thank you so much for explaining everything. 🥰😍

Hey Maggie, I think you might enjoy some other duets between these 2. The first is: Greensleeves - Peter Hollens ft Tim Foust. The second is Black Bird - Peter Hollens Ft Tim Foust. Peter is a master at blending multiple tracks into a cohesive whole. These two were filmed with them in much closer proximity than Misty Mountain. Peter often does collaborations with other artists and I haven’t heard even one that was not spot on glorious. I really enjoy the variety on your channel and the fact that you truly love music in general. Keep up the good work!

Peter Hollens is known for his layering. He is masterful at it. It sounds just as full when it's just Peter singing. This song is from the movie "The Hobbit" and their costumes are very appropriate. I'd love to hear you react to Peter singing "Shenandoah". It's a "solo" but the layering is superb (and it's a beautiful song).

Another from the Hobbit series I'd recommend if you haven't done it already is I See Fire. Written and sung by Ed Sheeran over the end credits of The Desolation of Smaug, just the beauty of this song make me want to get into the movies. Peter's version is beautiful and awesome.

In the late 90s and early 2000s, there was a group that called themselves "Gregorian". They release several albums around that time, taking famous songs and singing them in the Gregorian Choir style. I recommend checking them out if you haven't. Especially the early albums Another great group from that time, is ERA. Their song "Ameno" is just amazing, and still sends shivers down my spine when I hear it.

All the singing is all Peter and Tim, even the choir background harmonies. Check out an older endeavor by Peter - “The Sky Rim Theme” (full Dovakhiin song), then the video of Lindsey Stirling andPeter Hollens “Sky Rim” (official music video) The song is the same, adding Lindsey and her violin, done to a nice story telling video, full costumes and video production. I think you will enjoy.

Maggie. To me it seems like at times that they're by a cave or possibly in a cave. Or surrounded like in a canyon surrounded by walls of Rock. Rock definitely Echoes when you're in that type of situation. The acoustics could be part of it resonating from an area like that cuz you can see all the rock formation in the back. That will also play part I believe in the acoustic parts and make it sound much more richer than it would not be in there. And with you being an opera singer and been all over the place does that make sense to you?

Given the song is in G#... he hit a G#1 and not an Ab1 :p Peter's range is just absolutely insane. In his chest voice, he is like a baritenor, then he kicks in the mixed, head voice, and falsetto to become a countertenor+.
@samswords99932 жыл бұрын
The first verse is from The Hobbit. The next couple are ones I haven't heard before. The last verse is from The Fellowship of the Ring. It's interesting that if you look at the version in the Hobbit and the version that the hobbits wrote in The Fellowship of the Ring has a different rhyme scheme (if I am recalling correctly).
