Not only a sublime voice , but an intelligent and technically flawless interpretation. No one comes close. Norman was a vocal phenomenon hard to replace. Her mature musicianship always adds more colour to her interpretation.

Joyce didonato does have a different voice-type ... but it ain't on the same magnificent & grand-scale as Norman ! AND that is, for better or worse, what opera singing has always been. _The Baroque Singers were the End-All & Be-All of this 400 + years' Vocal-Gift from Italy to the World._ _Mussolini's embarrassment to Italy can almost be forgiven._

Interesting point. We can (safely?) assume that Callas did not have nearly as many recordings as Norman, because of the expense of recordings at the early stage of records.
