With how iconic and popular the Minecraft tracks are I could see it making top 10, don't think that's too weird. but 1? yeah sure a bit strange. As someone who is around the same age as the community manager who made the list, I don't really have anything against this list. It's a subjective list by someone growing up in the 2000s. Also, Portal and Half Life have awesome soundtracks. The only thing I really disagree with on the list is I think Fortnite should be way higher. The cinematic score and lobby music is honestly just really great, regardless of the quality of the game.

Yeah it's super clear shesez is just being very blinded by age here. I definitely think there are better older soundtracks, but just looking at later ones this is a pretty good list. Probably they have chrono and mother on the list because they were trying some roms, so it's not fair to assume they would know a bunch of older games as well just because of that.

Looking through the list, it seems like the people who made the list knew that they needed to pay homage to some of the classic old school SNES soundtracks by adding stuff like Chrono Trigger and Mother 3 to the list, but they didn't particularly care for those soundtracks enough to give them a real shot on this list. While there are some braindead "wut soundtrack?" choices in here, a lot of the actual choices make a lot of sense. Indie Games seem to be the sweet spot for the list creators, which is always nice and makes sense given that most of the games that actually care to provide a good soundtrack come from the indie front.

I genuinely think it might be a fun exercise to dig into some of the soundtracks that you're most surprised to see on this list, maybe you'll discover something? I don't think you were fair on GTA 5, the fact that they've listed an original Tangerine Dream track as the top track disproves what you're saying about them basing it on the radio tracks. I get why you're saying that based on Beethoven appearing earlier, but to say "a scant few" when Tangerine Dreams composed over 35 hours worth of music for the game is doing them a massive disservice. Whether it belongs on a top 100 is obviously still up for debate but shouldn't be dismissed out of hand. I personally think you overvalue Chrono Trigger, (it's good, but maybe top 20 or something) and think it's outrageous you namecheck FF6, 7 and 9 while purposefully skipping 8 which is my personal #1, way way over Chrono Trigger. That's the problem with these lists, people's opinion can vary wildly. I still think this list is rubbish, but I feel like this sort of thing always happens when you give a lot of people a list to vote on.

Gonna be real... compared to my personal list, you're gonna regret thinking Opera's was bad. (Chrono Trigger don't even crack top 100 lmao) Also it's very clear to me they made this list with another rule, that rule being the song has to be available on Spotify. There's no doubt in my mind they wanted this list to be a playlist before deciding what would be on it. I doubt there's even 100 good VGM OSTs on Spotify so frankly they probably had it pretty rough, would also likely explain the lack of "classics"

I agree that chrono trigger has a great OST, but Minecraft is a masterwork in atmospheric tracks and is well deserving of a high placement. I also felt like there were a ton of well deserved OSTs that you completely looked over because you were so focused on mother 3 and chrono’s placement. It overall just felt bitter when this could’ve been a good opportunity to learn about why people would like these OSTs or talk about a bunch of cool snubs you’d include

Shesez, I think you were pretty confused about how this ranking worked. I don't agree with the list, but it was ranking individual songs, not entire soundtracks. For Super Smash Bros. Brawl, what was being ranked was the game's main theme (akin to "Lifelight" in Ultimate). When you commented on the game, you appeared to think OperaGX was ranking the entire OST? That isn't the case (they even list the song title). Feel free to disagree with the list, but I'm surprised you missed this

It look nasty I hate worlds that are all square or of a singular shape it offends my senses. Which is why I also do not like legos especially the funky lego video games of all things ugh. Granted if Minecraft has good music then I suppose that is it's only good quality in my opinion.
