Absolutely phenomenal, I saw Opera North's production of Wagner's Mighty Epic Der Ring Des Nibelungen at Sage Gateshead High praise to all involved but especially to Richard Farnes and The Orchestra of Opera North, so looking forward to Parsifal at Leeds Town Hall in May 2021.

Even native German-speakers have trouble with Wagner's deliberately archaic prose in the Ring. It is similar to Shakespeare for English-speaking listeners, or even Chaucer.

It eclipses the dreadful Lepage production at the New York MET many times over, that's for sure! Opera North does itself proud - and has established a very high bar for itself. All hats off! Wagner would be most pleased.

I am a life long Wagnerian. The singer is good but come on a bald, bearded guy as Siegfried. Siegfried is a story about an adolescent ( he is called der Junge - the boy most importantly by Wotan when he says to the eternal youth belongs the world)going into the world, becoming a man and unknowingly changing the fate of the world. Doesn't fit with the theme. I grew up with Siegfried Jerusalem as Siegfried. I saw him countless times at the Met. He is a more convincing Siegfried.
