You look like you're thoroughly enjoying yourself, yet still nervous as heck. I can't imagine being my grandfather (died of Black Lung in 1986 at the young age of 64) who had no choice but to go into those mines to make a living. My, how times have changed.

I was a little nervous operating such a heavy powerful piece of equipment, but I had a good teacher.
@richdiscoveries3 жыл бұрын
Dude, this is so cool!! I'm surprised they let you go that fast. I mean I know it's not that fast in the grand scheme of things but considering its 74 year old equipment in a mine that's well over a hundred years old, that is awesome.. And being that age that is some incredibly heavy equipment. All solid steel and the batteries alone probably way more than a passenger car. What a great experience, so cool man. Thank you for sharing, and as always stay safe and God bless
@JPVideos813 жыл бұрын
We had a great instructor. I could only imagine going top speed in there haha. You should try to attend one of their events sometime this year.
@richdiscoveries3 жыл бұрын
@@JPVideos81 I was thinking about it last year when you went but tgen everything happened and the world shut down. Now that things are opening back up, this summer I plan to attend much more. Definitely want to do the turnpike tunnels but this is something that looks extremely cool as well
@frankforrest15973 жыл бұрын
Awesome stuff Jay. It's amazing that engine is 78 years old and still works just as well now as it did in 1948. At one point I thought it was gonna derail from the dips, good thing it didn't. Great video 👊👍

The tracks had some rough and bouncy areas, but it handles it well. Almost like an Indiana Jones mine ride haha

Enjoyed the ride very much....looked like it was really speedin thru there ..LOL...Didn't realize it was always (?) so wet in the mine.. Would make it miseraby cold in the winter time I imagine ... Thank you for the fun ride ..( Hope you are feeling better ) .
@JPVideos813 жыл бұрын
Water always travels through the earth, so water is very common in these mines. But good thing is that it's always in the mid 50's the entire year. So during cold winter times, it would be quite comfortable.

@@ThomasBMagwn Not sure if its original, but some of the paint is from when it was in use at Glen Burn mine in Shamokin. I know the battery box was repainted once at no.9 not sure about the rest of the locomotive. this one is used for maintenance in the mine, not the tour train. so its not kept as shinny and clean haha.
