That just scratched an itch I didn't know I had. I have an ex military Hale 250 water pump that has a weird "cart start " option that uses a propane cartridge before it switches to a JP4 fuel tank, all built off of an OMC outboard engine. I also used to have an electric / air start diesel engine from a tri-axle dump. I always thought it was the perfect "apocalypse" engine since you could always hand pump the air tank to get it going in a pinch. Old tech can sometimes really surprise you with how simple yet advanced and practical it is.
