I designed the methods to Fabrication of an actual railroad car rotary dampers. 4 of them went to Russian coal power plants. The coal freezes up and can't be dump out the bottom. That's why they make rotary dampers. Western Pennsylvania Steel Fabrication in New Castle Pennsylvania. We started large projects in the early 90s was when I started to work there. A guy tried to start making it named Joe it was all messed up. It was then I fixed his and then designed Fabrication. Pretty Kool I like your little one. I'm straight Mister

Do the couplers do that twisting on the real thing?
@finster1014 жыл бұрын
Really nice dumper, one of the best I've seen, IMHO. I especially like your clamping system. It looks like you have 2 'cams'. The upper cams rest on beams keeping them raised until the dumping rotation starts and I'm assuming that the lower cams lock/unlock the clamps in against the car somehow. Is that correct? Do you have drawings, plans or possibly a website with more information about your clamps and dumper as a whole? Thanks!

finster101, thank you for the comment and you are correct in how it works. The lower arm is spring loaded and when it moves off its cam, it clamps down on the string and locks the car clamps in place. Well sort of, the car clamps can still be moved but it holds tight enough to keep the car in place while it's being emptied. That was by far the hardest part to figure out.

How did you make those swivel couplers?
@paulmack40902 жыл бұрын
I made them from Kade #5s. I took it apart and drilled a hole the length of the shank. I cut the head off and reattached it with a pin. Then put it back together and install.

Heyl Patterson builds big ones and I made this little one. I started with some aluminum and steel scraps. After that added some plastic details and paint.
