Operation A - 1973

This launch film for the Ford A Series takes the form of a private investigator sent by a rival to try and steal the secrets of the new truck before Ford are able to get it on the market. Using a variety of disguises, the private eye infiltrates the test labs, factory and test track to gather information. Needless to say, he is very impressed and fails in his mission to scupper the launch.

God, do people really have such short memories, or is it because im so old? That A series 6 pot diesel just would not start in the cold, had to have either injection retro fitted, towed them round the yard to start at just 1 year old. Later models had heater plugs in each cyl, starting was still not good, but better,

Ford really knew how to test it's commercial vehicles, by putting them through the most arduous conditions on test tracks and out in the field, and if things went wrong in testing, they'd go back to the engineers and work on solutions together to get the vehicles right.

Excellent video thanks, shame the a series was such a disaster- soluble steel and a York engine addicted to easy start from the get go- no wonder the Mercedes and dodge 50s dominated the medium truck market in the 70-80s !
