This didn't have to happen, the French Navy would not fight for the Germans!

No one will ever know now , unfortunately a lot of french soldiers did fight for the Germans, one of the last SS divisions to surrender in Berlin was french , the British couldn't take the chance this early in the war .

The french fleet was given the choice,join us or be destroyed.They chose the vichy/german side.
