'Operation Cookie Monster' Keeping People Safe Online

An online marketplace for cyber crimes has been shut down through "Operation Cookie Monster." The FBI and other international law enforcement agencies shut down the sites owned by Genesis Market, a site that allegedly gave criminals the tools to steal identities and money. Criminals could pay less than $1 to access passwords. Authorities say there were 80 million digital fingerprints for sale. The FBI says victims of those using Genesis have lost tens of millions of dollars.

My disabled mother had her money stolen twice in the past four months. Her bank was scammed into sending another debit card to the thieves as well. She even got banned off of Facebook because someone charged 400 dollars on market place. Its been hell to deal with. I'm glad these people got arrested and I hope they rot in jail.

Sometimes they get your passwords through a method known as bruteforce, which literally just trying a bunch of different password combinations until one of them is correct. The longer your password is, and the more special characters it has, the less likely it is to get bruteforced.
