Funny thing with the title card and the intro song - instead of "a real American hero" you hear loud and clear "an international hero" . The answer is quite simple : Although the original toyline was a big hit in the US, it didn't get the same success in other regions, so Hasbro renamed it as "Action Force" for the European market - with more or less good sales figures. Ironically the franchise grew more popular in Europe since the releases of the live-action movies in the early 2010s. Another interesting fact : The brand "Action Force" was an inspiration for a complete new and independent toy franchise called "Action Man", which spawned an extremely popular toyline and series mixed with live actors and cartoon sequences during the mid-90s.

Also, Destro from the last series *knows* firsthand that spiting Baroness in any way is a fatal mistake. She went out of her way to prove it in one episode of Season 2. And now, ..... Baroness is just taking it on the nose.......

This Serpentor doesn't sound as loud as the OG Sunbow series. And he look a bit different.

Everyone look a bit different in this 5 parter. Take a look at Destro. He looks, sounds and acts nothing like the Sunbow version. Destro despised the Dreadnocks, he wouldn't ever had a relationship with Zarana, the sister of Zartan who despises the most. And another thing that took my attention is the absence of other Cobra members such as Dr Mindbender, the Grimson Twins and others.

@@user-vm8qc3vz2w this series focused on the 1989 toy releases; problem being there were no versions of the main Cobra leaders issued that year, only new vipers like the alley & night vipers, and Python Patrol, plus Gnawgahyde. Hence the inclusion of Serpentor, Destro, Cobra Commander, Baroness & Zarana, even though there were no new figures released of these characters. Conversely on the Joe side the focus was on the Slaughter’s Marauders subteam, new versions of Stalker & Rock & Roll, and new recruit Scoop. Likewise Lady Jaye was likely included as the token female Joe since there were new new or reissued female Joes that year or in 1990, the first full season from DIC

The idea was to sell new set of figures, so of course they did everyone different for the new figures. Some were improvements though. Rock n’ Roll looks better, but others like Dusty looked better in the Sunbow series. Serpentor looked and sounded better in the previous series too. Btw the golden Destro is from the “Iron Grenadiers” toyline. At this time they also had the Python Patrol toyline.

The DIC G.I. Joe cartoon series began with a five-parter called "Operation: Dragonfire," where G.I. Joe and Cobra battled around the world for sources of a mysterious energy called Dragonfire to power a new weapon. The animation in Dragonfire isn't that bad at times. It resembles the animation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, with fewer, lighter colors and less detailed backgrounds then those typically used in the Marvel/Sunbow series. The real difference is in the characters' movement, especially fighting, where it's unrealistic and jerky. Dragonfire had much of the same music as the Marvel/Sunbow series. The theme song was basically the same, except with a few lyrics changed. "A Real American Hero" is replaced with "International Heroes" (except the logo still said "Real American") and "Cobra The Enemy" was replaced with "A Ruthless Enemy". The other change was replacing "he", as in "he never gives up" with the more accurate "they" (as G. I. Joe is not one person). The background music used old Marvel/Sunbow music along with new synthizer music that seemed well out of place that was also used at the end during the credits. Several characters from the Marvel/Sunbow series appear in this initial miniseries: Sgt. Slaughter, Stalker, Rock 'n Roll, Barbecue, Footloose, Spirit (with Freedom), Mutt (with Junkyard), Low-Light, and Lady Jaye for G.I. Joe; Serpentor, Cobra Commander, Destro, the Baroness, Zarana, and Copperhead for Cobra. However, only Sgt. Slaughter, Low-Light, and Lady Jaye also appear in the subsequent DiC series for the Joes (with only Sgt. Slaughter and Lady Jaye remotely resembling their original appearances), while all but Serpentor and Copperhead do so for Cobra. It also marks the only animated appearances for Backblast, Downtown, Long Range, and the Night-Vipers.

Missed potential with Scoop in Season 1 of DIC G.I. Joe series. They could of went on missions with Scoop being the new guy with the video camera hooked up to the G.I. Joe Headquarters' computer. The Joe computer could have been deciphering things all season long. Maybe the Joe computer is not as sophisticated as Destro's computer.

I really hope, that this funny Series with it predecessor comes somday to Germany! I just watched the first series and i must say, i laughed my ass off! And the sequel seems quiet as good as the first one. Im gratfulll, that i had the positibiltiy, to grew up in the 80s. When politicall correctnes was not in childrens tv.
