Dr. Mahipal ji:. A yet another brilliant presentation. A few words about the role of the helicopter squadron HU 114 based in Leh which as you mentioned provides critical support. The usual flight ceiling for a Chetak or a Cheetah is about 10,000 ft. Since 1977, IAF has mastered flying these machines above 15,000 ft which is a world record. They are flown loaded with supplies, weapons and soldiers around the year, no matter summer or winter. No other air force can match this feat. This arm of the operation was pioneered by two young aces Anil Dogra and Manohar Lal Monga both of whom provided critical support to Narendra 'Bull' Kumar's initial expedition and together died in a crash in November 1978 during their last sortie. Thanks to them, we are able to support our soldiers for the past many decades.
