Great story, but seriously, why is Dwight doing this? Sure he is being paid to protect the compound---but looking for the missing kid and going into the haunted river is not his business. He isn't getting anything out of it. Tell the witch or the butler to do it if they want. Not his circus---not his monkeys. It's not like he is the county sheriff. Yes, he is a good, heroic man, which is admirable. But he is not being paid to protect the town. And isn't it a little late to do anything about the haunted river after the kid went missing? Why didn't they keep her inside she when started bringing weird things back to the house? And of course the witch is taking it calmly-----she was never in danger----Dwight took all the risks. I really liked the mention of the stairs in the woods! I would love for Dwight to run into them, at least see them in passing. Why are they helping the witch at all----all they offered was a ride, not being her servants. What the story does not make clear is why Dwight is putting up with this? He got his money---why not just wash his hands of the entire thing and leave? Especially after being talked to like that by his employer?

I always figured Dwight as more of a 10mm guy. A 9 mil isn't much of a hand cannon.. On another note, after that phone call I'd have told Theo to shove his mansion up his puffy, spit pot of an asshole and deal with his problems himself. Collect all the guns, ammo and cash and commodities possible and hit the road in my shiny new armored truck. Leave the gates open when I leave and drop the kid at the local CPS office.
