David Martin The plus-minus operation is done in alternative order on allocated cells and on the allocated value. With starting cell(unoccupied cell) as plus. If Instead of a 3x3 matrix we have a 4x4 matrix with a lot of unoccupied cells in which loops can be formed, how do we choose the ideal loop ? Or, Do we try all of them ?

Chetna Malik No matter how big the cost matrix is,if you follow all rules of making the loop, at any given time only one loop can be formed. For eg- the loop starts from smallest unoccupied cell, there should be only one smallest unoccupied cell at a time. But lets say there's more than one, but still then, at each corner point of loop there should be an occupied cell. So all possible loop may not fulfil the criteria, so the loop which fulfils all the criterion, is our required loop. I hope I'm clear.I take my personal time to clarify doubts of my viewers. In most of the cases,in initial basic feasible solution,least cost is obtained by VAM. But two things to remember, 1st,VAM does not always give the optimal cost during the initial solution; you may need to do MODI Method or Stepping Stone Method on the initial solution to get the optimal solution. 2nd,sometimes Matrix Minimum Method also gives least cost in initial solution. Since we're talking about value,not location.2) Clockwise/anticlockwise looping shouldn't give different result.3) 4 is the minimum value among 4,7,7 so it's taken. Refer to the Loop Rule No. 2(at time 5:53)- "Starting & Ending Cell of Loop must be an Unoccupied cell(unallocated cell)." The cell 3.2 is an unallocated cell,whereas the cell 1.2 is an allocated cell. That's why I started the loop from cell 3.2. Hope it suffices your query. Because you won't get occupied cells at each corner point of loop in that case. If you start from cell 3.2(cell value 6) next cell will be 1.2(value 1),next 1.1(value 5),but then you'll get stuck. As you cant't go to cell 3.1(value 17) as that's not an allocated cell. Hope it's clear to you. If not,please re-watch the video. Sir, first of all thanks for the video. It was explained beautifully.. Just 1 question that... Suppose there is an allocated cell between 2 corners of the loop. So the question is whether to include that cell in the loop or not ?

Any allocated cell which isn't a corner cell but comes in the path of loop between two corner cells is ignored during calculation. sir in u3 v3 the allocation was [4] 7 at the beginning of the solution and it changed to [4] 8 during looping.

1).Why did you take U1=0 when you started the optimality test? Can't we take any other value? 2). Also looping is not clear. at U3V3= 4-4 =0 and U2V3=7+4=11 and at U2V2 you have taken 7-3=4 instead of 7-7=0. why is it so? Could please explain the 1 & 2? Else it's clear..!

Rahul Gandhi 1) No you can't use any value other than 0. We used U1 = 0 to nullify it and get the value of V1. After getting value of V1 we can start a chain operation to get other values. And I choose U1 as it has highest number of occurrence (2 times out of 5 equations). You could have taken U2 = 0 as it also has 2 occurrences.2) Your 2nd question is not clear to me. Can u give me exact time duration in video which is not clear to you?

Sujoy Krishna Das 1). I got the logic after watching other videos. Yes It is selected based on the maximum number of occurrences/allocations and be assigned the value zero. This has not been explicitly explained while taking into consideration.Hence the confusion 2). I got the Logic after watching other videos. Looping in this example is very easy. And it may not be with three corners alone, it can be any number of corners but all the corners should be occupied/basic cells. Subtraction/Addition of allocated value in the starting cell will be done with the allocated values in the other corners. I thought it follows a sequence. Hence the confusion. Otherwise it a good video. Keep it up..!
