This song is about a demon possessing someone. He uses different tones in his voice to depict the demon, the narrator and the person being possessed. First part with the distorted growls (the demon lurking as if he was underneath), clean growls (as if the demon was on top persuading). The guitar solos that follow is the person being submitted/possesed. First aggressive solo (like fighting it) then more growls (the demon) convincing/persuading). Then light keyboard and soft part comes in as a feeling of being overcome and submitted by the demon and the clean vocals is the narrator depicting the scene of conversion. Then the aggressive nature of the demon takes completely over. *insert headbanging here* .....and then..... "Aaaaaaaaah" "Silently" "Aaaaaaaaaaah" "Whispering" "Aaaaaaaaah" "Move in me and set me free".. Is the final submission/total possession. Then the rest of the song "is it over??" is the feeling of being set free of the pain. First its silence, then echoes. I get a feeling of weightlessness from it as if I where a ghost that doesnt feel pain. :) Opeth is all about imagination and feeling. They're stories. Adventures. Picture yourself in the song and maybe you'll feel the music inside you....

@@carlosdegraciaacuna2375 The same applies to all their albums. I mean, what's Blackwater Park about? Or Harlequin Forest? Or Moonlight Vertigo? If you can provide a coherent meaning for any one of their songs, I'll be be impressed. I should clarify: I love Opeth. They're my favourite band in fact. But let's not pretend lyrics are Mikael's strong suit. He's admitted he's not very good at lyrics and writes them as an afterthought.

Can anyone explain everything after 9:30? why is it there? why is it mostly silence? Why does it go for SO LONG? I feel like it taints an otherwise cool song, but maybe i just dont get it yet

It’s a verse from masters apprentices played backwards. “Soothing trance, colours fade and disappear” blah blah blah I can’t remember the rest.

Old analog supports like vinyl or cassettes have a fixed length so back then bands used the extra space to include all kinds of easter eggs like hidden tracks (hidden because you only get to hear it if you wait through the silent part and it is not listed on the cover) or messages in reverse like here.

This sounds way different to the version on my CD. Anybody know what version this is? Is this the original remix? It sounds fucking amazing!

It's the original mix you probably have the remixed version along with Damnation.

Toprak Koç Aye I do have the remixed version on CD! There’s so many versions floating around on KZbin that I haven’t a clue if I’m listening to the original mix. Cheers for clearing that up mate
