I have seen Opeth 8 times here in Perth Australia! My guitarist, brother and myself literally bumped into the entire band on a footpath before the latest concert!! It was so cool! We all nodded at them in recognition and casually walked past them... lol We didn't want to do the selfie autograph thing, we thought it'd be cooler to just acknowledge them that way and let them chill before the gig!
@WorldOfPain6662 жыл бұрын
I've seen them twice in Perth myself, both times they blew me away.
@Defensive_Wounds2 жыл бұрын
@@WorldOfPain666 My favourite one was 2008 when the power went out 3/4 through the gig, the amps and emergency lighting still worked but no strobes etc. Mikael after 10 mins standing on stage wondering what to do, got some torches for the drummer to see his kit, then asked us if we wanted them to continue playing - you know the answer! They did 2 more songs (BWP and Demon of the Fall...lol) The other fave show of theirs was 2019 when I actually bumped into all of Opeth plus 2 security guards on a footpath outside a pub with my guitarist and my brother before seeing Opeth on stage!! We wore custom Opeth teez that I printed myself by hand that are total one-offs!!

I had a moment of disappointment when I saw this was Ghost of Perdition again, but you two are too entertaining and I was grinning like a fool within the first minute. It helps that you seem to have barely listened to Ghost of Perdition since you first heard it...which is crazy to me 😅 It's funny, a lot of Opeth fans will crap on Mikael's harsh vocals for how they sound these days, but everyone who reacts to this video is still impressed by how he sounds. You can hear a difference for sure, he's more growly and less screamy, but I think it's just different, not necessarily worse or better.

its probably natural as well. the metallica vocals were "screechy" in the early days as well in the 80s. its just a vocal progression. a classical musician does a review on it, the vocals are very relaxed and im guessing its probably for preservation that it closes off early.

I had the pleasure of seeing Opeth in Detroit back on May 18th of 2003 and met the band after the show (except for their drummer who I watched run from the venue to the tour bus). That was the first time I was ever star-struck. I had a nice little chat with Mikael Åkerfeldt. He told me how he was struggling to quit smoking. I expected Mikael to be a really big guy like most Swedes seem to be, but he’s actually only about 5’6” (edit: I am mistaken, he’s about 6’, I was thinking of the bassist). I love your reactions! See you next time :)
