Opeth's riff is not that hard to play (at least compared to other prog bands). BUT what makes it special? The composition! Mikael is a riff machine, makes simple yet memorable riffs, perfect for intermediate guitarists going to more advanced guitarists. A perfect band for exercising your skills in riff composing and song writing. I believe that's what makes them really special.

I remember Åkerfeldt saying The Moor was the hardest (at least for him). I don't remember where exactly, but I would have to agree with him. Still Life as a whole is probably their most technical album. There are definitely hints of that technical riffage on the other albums, but they don't go full out on any of the other records.

What a cool guy, my favourite band for so many years. I'd rate The Moor the hardest but not necessarily strictly rhythm guitar (even though I don't consider it lead guitar for some reason). Because of that one pattern between verses around 5 minutes, so hard to nail the lick using pinky and going down the strings. Despite being a very normal pattern. Or Wreath intro, the jumps between chords are tough to be rhythmically accurate. Or By the Pain I see in the Others verse, that riff is like a nail gun.

Just wanted to say that quite apart from the fact that you learned all these songs and played them perfectly, it's pretty amazing that you manage to pull them all into a medley that works and is enjoyable to listen to. Since I noticed it, it's often the part that impresses me the most about these videos. Most would have it be a jerky mess but you actually make something that's enjoyable to listen to, even for someone like me who's never listened to Opeth (or any of the others). Kudos to you.
