Good review. I have been eyeing this pedal for quite some time and was on the fence as I had not seen anyone do a review of it using an acoustic guitar - till now. I will get one as it will (I expect) do exactly what I think an octave should do for me. Thanks for this, Aaron.

I use one of those on my acoustic pedal board. It's great for more texture in some songs. I use it with a magnetic soundhole pickup so I avoid bass enhancement on handling noises - it works perfectly. I also use a Submarine pickup into a EHX POG for the faster stuff.
@WalterBranky6 ай бұрын
Hi. I already have a submarine pickup, and I'm considering this pedal so I can strum chords and get only the lowest note (I tried the boss oc-5 which theoretically has the same feature but it's garbage). So why is this Opfxs pedal not good for faster things? Please help me out before I purchase it 😅

Cool pedal and demo, Aaron! I feel like I would use that if I were doing an outdoor solo gig that I wanted more body for. For indoor restaurants, the bass may be too overwhelming but I wouldn't know until I try it. Most indoor places take the bass out of their house music too
@aaronshortmusic10 ай бұрын
The great thing is that you can adjust the amount of the sub and make it really subtle if you like. You can also take more bass out of the guitar and have more of it coming from the sub. There shouldn't be a reason why the bass is too loud, it's more of a 'fullness' thing.

Thanks for this, Aaron. I've been using the Boss OC-5 and have been very frustrated with how it bleeds midrange notes as bass notes no matter its settings to only play the lowest notes. Going to go ahead and try the OPFXS Dig Deep.

Great review. I've got one coming in the post. I'm a full time singer guitarist and I'm really looking forward to trying it out. I'm hoping that it's not going to cause any feedback issues. I use a tc helicon vl3x, which does both guitar and vocal effects because I love simplicity in my setup. But I think this may be worth having the extra pedal
@aaronshortmusic10 ай бұрын
I use the VL3x too. I think the DD will be a great addition. Let us know what you think!

Hey this is a great breakdown! I have the OC-5 for this purpose and like you I've had issues with the tracking - especially at lower tunings, basically unusable! I tune down to D-standard and I'd be worried that even this pedal would struggle with those lower frequencies, especially when I tune to drop D (C in my tuning) - any idea if it tracks better with lower tunings?

@@aaronshortmusic I have used a Boss OC3 and I felt it was horrible, since it had a lot of issues to figure out the lowest note... a lot of tracking problems. I used it with the K&K Trinity. Now I'm interested in this one!

I currently use the Boss OC-5 and has always eye-ed this Dig Deep. Would love to hear a sound comparison (preferably blind) between the Dig Deep and the OC-5.
@aaronshortmusic10 ай бұрын
I tried the OC-5 when it first came out and couldn’t get it to work well at all. I would be willing to revisit it but based on that experience I would recommend the Dig Deep.
@fcwy110 ай бұрын
@@aaronshortmusic I see. I haven't had any issues with the OC-5. I know the OC-5 doesn't do well with a mic pickup (in terms of both tracking and sound). I've been using it with a magnetic pickup only. The Dig Deep sounds pretty good and I'm so tempted to switch just because of the tone.
@aaronshortmusic10 ай бұрын
@@fcwy1 That’s good info and I agree the tone is awesome!

I'm using a Martin D-35 with an Ultratonic pickup running through an EV-30m PA. I find I can run into feedback issues if my bass frequencies are too loud or I'm too close to the sub. Do you think this pedal would add to the feedback problems?
@aaronshortmusic9 ай бұрын
It’s hard to say. Potentially it could add to the feedback. I would say you need to fix the issue at the source so I would try a Soundhole plug or notch out the feedback from the PA. The pedal didn’t make my guitar feedback at regular volume for the room I was in.
@bmdt819 ай бұрын
Hey Aaron, I've been messing around with a Boss OC-5. I installed an Ultratonic in my guitar, and I'm not sure I'm crazy about the tone of the lower octave. Do you still have a guitar with the Ultratonic in it that you might be able to try on this one? From the sound of it, I think I like the tone of the OPFXS over the Boss.
@aaronshortmusic9 ай бұрын
I don’t have that pickup anymore but there is no reason why you won’t get good results from the DD.

Hey Aaron, thx for the review. Haven‘t heard of that paddle, yet. Awesome. For my Solo-Gigs I use a oc3 by Boss. Would the Dig deep be a better Choice to simulate a Bass-Player? Greetings from Germany.

Dear Aaron, I just wanted to quickly thank you. the dig deep pedal arrived today. the first impression is really good. In contrast to the OC3 from Boss, the bass sounds much rounder and punchier. In addition, the harmonies sound much cleaner. I’m really happy. Thanks for your video, without which I would never have noticed the pedal. Greetings from Germany. stay healthy! Julian
