When he was a newborn baby, he had to have an emergency surgery. It was at a teaching hospital, and the surgery was observed by intern doctors. They left the incision opened too long, and it got infected. The infection lead to him almost dying, and his brain didn't receive oxygen for a period of time. As a newborn, portions of his brain died, so he was left as partially retarded.
