Yes Marc Maron went after him for supossedly making gay jokes. He later admitted he never heard it or had any examples. It was just something he heard second hand in Seattle news paper. So he then doesn’t do any research but decided to go after him about. And then claimed he screamed like an old queen. So it’s okay for me to tell gay jokes at you. Because I heard second hand that you did exactly what I’m doing. And Gallagher is the D bag. Wow Marc Maron is a total clown and a nobody but he is making fun one of the most popular comedians of all time. The irony is unbelievable

@moonlily16 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree. He wanted things that he didn't get, so he wants to overcompensate by denigrating people who are more successful than him, which is a lot of people. All the people who he says aren't rule comics like himself, it's like, seriously dude, you just wear a silly hat and smash fruit, but you're the only true comic? And he's trying to shit on Marc, but Marc's had has IFC show, he's on GLOW, his podcast is pretty successful, he just had a Netflix service. I fucking love how O&A is such a great place for comedians to talk about this kind of thing. It's just endlessly interesting, to me. I start with one thing on O&A and end up going from there to Patrice plus comedian X, Y, or Z, then that comedian on O&A, then they were on with Bill Burr once and that entire bit was great, et cetera. @NeonLeonNoel9 жыл бұрын
The way Marc Maron describes Gallagher is exactly how he acted in the O&A talk with Patrice. Gallagher is really jaded when he talks about career-related things. And when he tries to bring up an observant point, like when he tries to talk about how black comics only talk about the difference between white and black, he angrily approach it so bluntly that his idea never gets across, and he just sounds rude and annoying.
@ChadParenteau11 жыл бұрын
I heard the entire Gallagher podcast. Gallagher was contradicting himself, saying they were just jokes then just saying that they weren't even his. Going on about him doing one Arab joke because "they're the enemy." But then saying it was one joke out of many when he earlier related an Iranian joke he did early in the career. The difference between Gallagher and Gottfried is that Gottfried always owned what he said, and Gallagher didn't. His mind is a sad mess of crazy contradictions.

^^ This is a real thing. August 2010. He joked about Ted Kennedy being grateful for terminal brain cancer because "he could die with a hole in his head, like his brothers," he wise-cracked about how there were no Mexicans in the audience "until it was time to clean up afterwards," and he smashed a plate of collard greens, remarking "this should have pineapple on it, so it could represent our president." One out of those three is halfway funny, but, ugh, not a good trend.

Idk about the whole interview, but there's a clip on here of the last five minutes or so. It's pretty much word for word how Maron portrays it. Blowhard Gallagher going off about what is and isn't comedy, downing other comics, letting a little of his obvious racial issues out, acting like the state-fair circuit is something every comic desires, etc. Maron was actually being more than fair. Where was the lie? I'd give him the benefit of the doubt that it was a bad day, but after listening to two-plus hours of him on O&A, this is just how this guy is. He's an unfunny, angry little man. He thinks everyone from Carrot Top to Blue Man Group stole his act. And his ideas are batshit. He's just a miserable old cunt. It sure is interesting though, I'll give him that. Edit: search "WTF Gallagher walks out." Everything Maron says happened happened. I am no particular Maron fan, he can be a total dick, but where was he dishonest here? They're all referring to -- but won't directly cite -- an August 2010 performance (Gathering of the Juggalos, Illinois), where Gallagher did a three-fer involving Ted Kennedy ("brain cancer, now he can die with a hole in his head, just like his brothers"), Mexicans ("I don't see any in the audience yet, maybe when it's time for cleanup afterwards"), and Obama ("I'm gonna hammer-smash this plate of collard greens, I wish it had pineapple on it so it could represent our president"). This was supposedly representative of his comedy at the time. Note that both Maron and O&A tried to get him on their shows soon afterwards -- everyone could smell blood in the water, wanted their turns to hit him.

I think Gallagher is just the ultimate panderer. Utterly devoid of any intrinsic philosophy, he's just a huckster who finds it quite convenient to be well versed in all things metaphysical. What is metaphysics? It's the study of understanding how to know things. What better subject to master when you're trying to pander to a crowd of so-and-so's? He's the opposite of the pure stand-up comic who is telling the truth - his truth changes with regard to his audience.
