Movies like twister and Independence Day were only popular because 1996 was the year special effects became realistic looking. Today they would just be another movie but in 1996 people would go just see the special effects because people weren't use seeing realtic effects back then

Fuckn love this. I remember seeing Twister many times over the years and never understanding why people never talked about how bad it was. God, that one pick of "Dusty" and the other two guys, I wanna smack the shit outta them. I remember that scene. They were saying, "Food! F-f-OOD!", haha. So many gloriously cringey moments in Twister.
Ant dropping a Rollercoaster reference is amazing. A terrorist played by the guy from That's My Bush blows up rollercoasters at amusement parks around the country. Ant might be one of the first people I've heard reference it.

You CAN be that close. Thats whats so weird about them. An F-4 came over my house carrying the roof of a furniture store. Deposited the roof into my front yard. Never disturbed my pickup. The water heater in thr front yard i was using as a target never even wobbled. Tornado came down, pushed over a HUGE Oak tree, cut the tops out of the smaller ones as it was dropping down and carved a path through the forest. It was so loud i couldnt hear anything. Even the tree was totally silent. I could have thrown something into that thing it was so close. Im absolutely terrified of them now

The special effects were fairly crappy, even by 1996 standards. Go watch the scene where the "bad guys" get killed by the tornado. Their truck exploding looks like something out of a 50's drive-in B movie.
