Good luck finding a classier, older, and more useful knife for the price. I love these to death. I have a collection of over 20 Opinels now. I'll probably be getting more in the future. But hey, at least they don't break the bank!

It’s amazing how a bit of thought and basic common sense can create a design so bullet proof it’s survived to this day without hardly any change. I am still to get hold of the Japanese and German versions of ‘Peasant Knife’ but they are on the ‘list’. 🔪👍

My carbon #8 consistently gives me hope that I can actually sharpen other knives too! They are fantastic slicers that get wicked sharp, real easy.

A close family friend and owner of a long time popular restaurant executive chef uses only the Opinel #13 Giant as he helps in prep. This might be common in high end Kitchens worldwide. Well put when you say "Opinel is essential".

A truly great knife . The three " mods" I have always made are: 1 - To bring the tip of the blade down a bit. 2 - To form a "easy-open", using a half round rasp and sand paper ( placed roughly under the handle logo) This allows one hand opening ( using the pinch and flick method ) and allows easy opening if the handle swells due to humidity. 3 - Drill a lanyard hole( I lose way too many knives ) Great Video. Peace , Be Free .

Has to be one of the modded knives in history. Thanks for sharing your info.

Great presentation on what most consider the most important knife of all!. I have in addition to my #8 and #6 Opinells is the Italian "Antonelli Old Bear" and the "M.A.M." knife! M.A.M. is the Founders name initials. Tremendous threesome for my peasant collection. Pure cutlery royalty.

I own a stainless #9 in olivewood and a smaller stainless #7. They have the outright best blade geometry in my entire knife collection. Even though I own plenty of d2, s35vn, etc. blades, these have become my #1 go-to edc knives. They are true cardboard slayers, and keep going even when they get dull because of how thin they are. Looking forward to getting a #10 or #12 in carbon to see how that steel compares.

Many people have commented about how good of a slicer they are. Thanks Daniel for sharing your experiences.

Absolutely 💯 - the No.8 🔪 is 'the' real classic of the whole range. I have a No.6 in Carbon, which is quite good for whittling, as its so thin behind the edge... Great video J, Atb Gus 👍

I have the 8 also which I guess is the most popular. The 9 is more comfortable in normalish size hands because the handle is a bit longer, imo. The knives are sharp as hell and are great slicers. Good info in the video.

Yup, it was one of my starter knives and is very good for kids. It's easy to operate with smaller hands unlike my other starter knife the Douk Douk which has a nasty backspring that loves eating fingers. Still have an 8 in Stainless and 9 in Carbon. Very good hiking/walking knife, it's light, with the collar it's very versatile and the spine is 90 degree's so can be used with a ferro rod. As long as you remember it has a thin blade and treat it accordingly it's a good knife.
@ThriftyKaniffy3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments JHAY. That thin blade makes for a heck of a slicer. It's a light duty winner in my book.
