I'm glad they handled the opossum as gently as possible. They are some of the least offensive wildlife around -- namely, they much prefer to hiss, growl, scream, and bluff by showing off their impressive array of 50 teeth, instead of actually biting or fighting.

Not to be confused with the possums of Australia, opossums or the Didelphimorphia order is one of just two orders of marsupials in the Americas, the other is the Paucituberculata order or Caenolestidae family which are the shrew opossums of South America. The Didelphimorphia order has over 90 species, however Virginia opossums are the most famous because they are the only marsupials found in the US as well as Canada! Making it also the northernmost marsupial in the world! The Virginia opossum's ancestors evolved in South America but spread into North America as part of the Great American Interchange. Virginia opossums are extremely dependent on their tails for their survival in the wild. They use them like an arm or a leg. They carry nesting material and food with them, they use them when climbing up and down trees as a sort of security grip. Their young start as the size of a honeybee! They remain in the pouch for about two months to develop. After they leave her pouch, the female carries her young on her back when she travels. When they do their famous death feigning, they release a green fluid that repels predators. Feigning can even last for several hours!

They were just casually doing their catwalk, living its best life making a fair play, appreciating the crowds for rooting it on, and checking if there are ticks, mice, ants, roaches, and other pests. Was doing their job and what he got? That's right, a humiliating escort of the field that was caught in camera. If I was in its place, I would be mad as well. But seriously, people tend to treat them bad because they aren’t the nicest looking animal, and the tail reminds them of a rat. But they are actually quite docile when left alone and they only live about a year or even two in the wild. Take some pity on the poor opossums. They don’t bother nobody...unless you're a pest. I 100% agree! Opossum are just anxious little wild friends who either bluff that they're tough or act so sick that you wouldn't dare eat them. In reality they're just little fuzzy dinosaurs with hands, since they've been around for about 70 million years, and do a ton of good stuff for us including providing more stable anti-venoms while eating rodents, insects, snails, and even venomous snakes.
