The fact that you have to put up boundaries to prevent romantic improprieties between “friends” tells you everything you need to know if opposite sex friendships are practical or natural. I was friends with my ex and my husband wasn’t comfortable with it, so I cut it off. I wasn’t happy about it initially but it’s totally worth it because my marriage is more important. We both have close friends of the opposite sex but we have boundaries, like never being alone with them (or any person of the opposite sex). It has nothing to do with trust, but we’re human and our marriage is so important to us that we do everything to protect it. I just went through this in my last relationship. My ex had a male friend, that would call her, txt her here and there. And it bothered me, I promised her that I did have females I was chatting with before, but I stopped and am not looking for any sort of female friend because I know what that would do to the relationship, it would ruin it and she would always think that I'm doing something with that other person. In closing I think once your in a relationship, you have to drop all friends of the opposite sex. If not it will turn into a long road of various things that will potentially end the relationship. Like I said to her time and time again, if you want to talk to a man, talk to me, not some other dude.

My fiance is like your husband, gets along with women more than men in social life. .. we're definitely going to have these conversations periodically as I get to know them. .. on my end I recently dropped a male friend (downgraded to acquaintance) when he openly disrespected my fiance to me. I’m cool with having friends of the opposite sex especially if they were there before the relationship as long as there is openness and transparency. But if you can’t talk to that person when I’m around then that’s a problem and a no go for me. Also, they better be respectful. And no new “best friends” of the opposite sex after we’re together. I’m ok with being friends with exes even if bodily fluids were exchanged.
