I saw him last month at Caesars Palace. I cried so much during his show. There's a feeling you cannot describe in words that comes from being in his presence. He is truly a gift. He's obviously channeling, but the love and compassion that he exudes is really something. On that stage, he's there for that audience, to lift them up and heal them. He is not there for his ego. That's such a rare thing! I've been to many concerts, but none can compare to James Taylor live. At the end of the show he was in the audience taking pictures and signing autographs. He did not have to do that, but that is just who he is. You feel the gratitude he has for his fans, for his gift, and for his life.

I am a fan of JT since I started playing acoustic guitar at the age of 16 and I eventually became a "folk singer" and it was my profession for the longest time which brought to many countries in Asia , middle east and Africa singing cover songs of james taylor, cat stevens, jim Croce, Paul Simon and of David Gates'. There's always a unique style in the guitar playing of James Taylor and his cool melancholic voice which complimented with his songs that sets him apart. I feel I'm in his world whenever I play and sing his song "you can close your eyes". I am grateful I was born in his era. Finally I had the chance to watch him live in Manila in 1994 and that was a memorable night for me. James Taylor Live , a truly electrifying 90 minutes to watch him play in flesh. Thank you for the music and God bless you James.

I just saw him in Phoenix a week or two ago... he didnt sing Shower the People but did 2 encores. We were kinda disappointed but loved it besides that. The stage settings made me so happy. 🌷 🌷 🌷 Wish he'd forgive himself for abandoning Carly and the kids... they would love to forgive and embrace him going forward. Glad he's found love - but one could always use an old friend... and clearing that karma going forward would be a blessing. Forgiving ourselves is the hardest part. We love and thank you for being you, James.

Without judgement or doubt that Dad went straight to him and James didn’t doubt that he was there for him and in the most challenging moment…I appreciate too how once he had the same deep understanding he spoke of family addictions & obviously devastated that his brother died because of alcohol, and ultimately his parents separated due to the dad’s issues as well….

When I was young, I was in a place called The Harbor School in Amesbury Massachusetts. I was waiting to see a dentist in a small town, I think it was called Newburyport as a group of under-privileged kids rebuilding what was left of our childhood. I heard acoustic guitar and asked if we could go see it. My adult that was in charge of us at the time said, "That's James Taylor". It stuck with me forever; the sound, the name James Taylor, all of it. It became a source of calm and comfort when I was alone, broken and scared in my life. I have bought every "CD" as a kid young adult and into now my middle years (48). I hope you see this at some point. It was your brother Livingston Taylor. The Residential advisor was wrong. I 1st saw James Taylor back in the 1980's then in the 90's and again in 2001. What amazed me the most was the crowd. Young, old, Black and White all singing along like they where just sitting on a porch with their best friend. That is what a real artist doses.

I don’t know where you lived in the 60s and 70s, but where I lived we practiced going in the hallways, sitting on the floors against the walls and placing our heads between our knees with our hands covering our heads in elementary school. It was to prepare us in the event of a nuclear strike from Russia. Then there was the assassination of JFK, MLK and RFK, not to mention the Vietnam War, and the Civil Rights Movement. “We didn’t start the fire, it was always burning……” Billy Joel. He tells this story a lot. I’ve seen him live 4 times and 2 of those times he told the story. His dad is somewhat known in the medical community in NC because in addition to being dean of the medical school in the 50s he is also JT’s dad, so James is making sure people remember his dad for being a good man who loved his family. He’s a great son.

THX 1138 I've taken most of these drugs, including hard opiates multiple times but thankfully never got addicted to them. The things I got addicted to though were cigarettes and Kratom (opioid)

I was at James's first post 9/11 concert in Portland, OR, and it was the most collective and transcendent experience of my life. So grateful to him for getting on a plane just days after that disaster and going on with the show. We needed that. We needed him.

Fire and Rain played so much throughout my childhood years on the radio. It was like a daily prayer. Also, through my childhood years, I had a best friend, Sandra. I often now wonder how often we were together giggling about something, and that song was playing in the background. I always thought the song was about a romantic breakup, and the broken-hearted, abandoned boyfriend was grieving his loss. Fast forward decades later. My friend Sandra died suddenly in her fifties. I was devastated. Much of her death was caused by self-neglect revolving around her diabetes. She welcomed death after her younger brother's death from ALS the previous year. Months after her passing, I was in the pool, and Fire and Rain started with that beautiful haunting opening line. I flashed back suddenly to the early morning hours when Sandra's cousin let me know she had died. It was one of those inexplicable knowings. I realized James wasn't talking about a breakup, but the death of a loved one. I quickly researched the song and found out about Suzanne. The ending line about seeing her again was how I felt about Sandra. I thought we would always be two little retired old ladies back to giggling and enjoying life. James's music is like a soul riding. It's like an ancient text that suddenly the Spirit reveals to you when you are ready for it. I'd like to meet him someday and tell him this story.

My mom rescued me..when I was 56 years old! I would never ask her for help, because I would have to be honest, and I feared her judgement and criticism and her dissapointement. NONE. I was just her kid. A boy who needed his mommy. If I talked she listened. If I didnt she didnt ask. I'm so glad we became friends. Probably the most important thing that ever happened to me. After that, I finally started to grow up. She turned me on to James Taylor!

I am too a great fan. Back in the days, I was in 3rd grade and living in southern Philippines. In the summer of 1974, My mom , sister and I went on a trip to the big city of manila. then to a7 hour trip to a cool summer capital destination famous for its cool temperature and fresh strawberries Baguio City. My elder brother who lived and worked in the big city of Manila drove us up to on his Ford pickup truck. That was was the beginning the of my love and affinity for James Taylor. My brother had it on an 8 track for all the 7 hours till we got up there and another 7 on the way back. I knew then I was hooked to JT. . That family trip was exploratory and rewarding. For me it was a eye opener- a revelation. I was filled with memories of love, joy and freedom to a 10 yr old it was like "I've gone to Carolina" - in my mind. I remember now, I made a promise to myself that in the future, I will watch a concert of James Taylor in this lifetime. And if that is not possible, when I get to heaven, the first person that I will look for IS James. Yeah It was that deep. So, In 2008 it happened at the Greek Theatre in LA. I did watch his concert.. and I sang along every song he sang.. It was surreal. The next person seated to me asked after the concert.. how did I know all his songs - he can't believe that coming from an Asia. lol. Thank you James. now, my Mom is 91, my brother 66 , and I'm 55 - Your music will always be the fiber that will keep this family singing " Oh..let us turn our thoughts today to Martin Luther King...."

Ayos, pre! Good story. I'm surprised you didn't see him coz he did a 2-nights concert in Manila at the Folk Arts Theater in 1994 or 95. I saw it. Both nights were sold out. He was supposed to do another one in 2017 as the last leg of his Asian tour but he cancelled it in protest of the killings that happened in the course of Duterte's drug war.

James's soulful music has essentially been a soundtrack for my life. I spent a good potion of my life learning his music because it made me feel so alive. In March of 2001, the love of my life died of cancer. I felt like just curling up and dying! However, I had 14 year old twin sons who had just lost their mother so I stepped away from music I had introduced them to from the day they were born. It took me many years to find my way back to music through encouraging them to learn and play their own music. I returned to learning to play the folk music I loved and was again finding my way. Suddenly in 2017, I had a stroke in my sleep and woke up unable to see properly and unable to remember hoe to play any of my instruments!I took James's advice and threw my energy into trying to exercise and relearn Spanish and French. It has been a great help to regain some control of my body and my mind. I haven't yet regained any mastery of my guitar but have slowly regained my memory of English, Spanish and French. I'm still relearning and I still love folk music but still haven't regained my ability to play. I am grateful for not being paralyzed but my life is changed forever.

JT is an Infp, they seek authenticity. Thus the lack of bells and whistles. Some of the worlds best singer/songwriters are Infps. Many of the worlds great writers and wordsmiths are too. George Lucas of Star Wars fame is an Infp and Shakespeare was too. Very creative people. Very deep souls. I have been listening to James Taylor since I was 15 back in the 1970s. I bought my first album of his and was hooked. I'm right at 68 now, and still as big a fan as ever. The music is still that good.

well, don't get too carried away with those words please. I think he is speaking of doses of isolation. Maybe...maybe loneliness. Are you lonely when you go off by yourself, or sit in your room to play and create? Maybe not lonely if you have someone or someoneS to come back to. It's a balance...when it's healthy. Remember even in his younger days he had that core of friends and of course now his family is part of his "rock."

oobla di you’re correct. As a creative person myself, I find myself creating the most when the things I love the most are in jeopardy or have gone away, and sadness sets in. When I’m happy, I don’t feel like creating as much. Constant and relentless depression is NOT a good place to be for a creative person. Many a great artist have been destroyed by the combination of addiction and depression. It’s the times when the fire is in your belly that the juices really flow.

Unfortunately that has been the case for many superbly talented people musically and other talents ...I've been listening playing and misunderstanding music for 50yrs ..Clapton JT Joe Walsh Elvis Danny Gatton to name a very few have had torturous periods in their lives all that personal struggle is very much part of the fantastic peson they become ...just my thoughts ..doesn't seem to be the case for the fly by night current "talent" ...legends leave an everlasting message and for that to happen you have to experience life including all its nastyness .

Mr.Taylor I have been a solid loving fan since October 12, 1978. That day as it was my first my parents named me after a song and play you home and from then on. Your music has been in my soul since but even you can see in your eyes the music has always been in you to. I would not be here in this world without you. I'm sorry I cried for most of the concerts as I've seen you twice last in Lincoln very close I ran through my Kleenex but I'm disabled and my blood sugar was so low I had to go fix it I returned to find you signing for very people. I was heart broke as I was told not to take my coveted collection of vinyl sweet baby James with me. My life would not be the same without his music, and I still revel in it, and that it still has that deep emotional effect on me as I go back to the early 70's in my early adult life with it. For James' life's good influences, and other bad times that he has overcome-his music means that much more to me now that this has been published. Good for you James-and thank you for your essential and beautiful music that has come out of your struggles and joys. Your guitar playing, lovely voice, and songwriting is so fundamental and long reaching in todays music, that it certainly should be experienced by any generation that will be open to the beauty of it. Thank you for making my life the richer for it, James. You have done very well in your presentation and artistry and I hope you are blessed with good health to keep making music as long as you are able. First saw JT on TV in England in 1969 and have been a fan ever since. Through his music James gave me a continuity during the roller coaster ride that was the 20th century. He still uses the same props (a high stool and a guitar) today. That link between Before This World and Jolly Springtime (with Yo-Yo Ma) is so evocative of times gone by that it has become a 'lachrymosa'. He's the greatest!

Have been a fan of JT for decades, and hearing him tell part of his story in his own words is very satisfying. I respect his immense talent, his humility, his humanity, and am grateful that he was able more than 30 years ago to triumph over his addictions. I wish him nothing but the best. I grew up Listening to James Taylor. His music is like a Time Machine. Each time I hear His Song's, My mind takes Me back to the many Memories of My Life. In fact, All My Life!! He's right, in the 60's everything came unglued. Society went to Hell. And the way he and his siblings went "into a tailspin" after his parent's divorce is the way it always is when parents divorce. I've loved you and your music since I was 16 years old. I got engaged at one of your shows, front row center, at the PNC Arts Center in New Jersey, in 1995... our first dance at our wedding was 'Something in the Way She Moves'... I have loved JT since I was a 10 yr old listening to my friend's older brothers albums. I have seen him 3 times in concert and enjoyed it immensely!
