It was a really awesome themepark, great atmosphere. Surprising that it closed at all...even more crazy that little Libertyland in Memphis lasted 8 years longer. Both were special places that will only live on in the memories of those who got to visit them.

We lost more than a mall we lost one of the things that Made Nashville special. A place where family's came from over seas. The park was built in the natural trees and landscape. The roller coasters went through the trees, it was amazing. The river where you could eat and watch the riverboats go by. Country music past and present. The mall that replaced it has been sold three times. Looks like a Big Success right? The mall is still not paid for. Gaylord knows they sold IT as soon as it reopened.

Listening to this music, I picture that show perfectly. When I was 9, I was pulled from my chair and put on stage to dance with them, thrown in the air, etc. Ah memories. I miss Opryland so bad

I worked in Merchandising in the summer of '73, then did caricatures in the park in the summer of '74. The employee parties were great - still have a paddle ball for winning a 50's dance contest back in the day. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

i live in southern florida and have all my life, but as a child, we used to travel to nashville and visit opryland every year, it was wonderful and I wish my children could have the same experience. I have not been back to nashville since the park closed, we now typically vacation in eastern tennessee in the gatlinburg area. i was so happy to hear that the mall flooded a few years ago! so many tourist dollars lost for a great little city

I miss Opryland. I would go all the time, especially on my birthday when I was a kid. Then, they had to go and make some stupid mall out of it. Like we needed anymore malls in the first place.

I performed in "...And the Winner is..." 1990 season! I'm from California but Had such a Great time there!! Went back to visit friends in April 2012 and was completely disgusted with the MALL! Didn't even bother to at least have an OPRYLAND or Grand Ole Opry Theme to it!! Made me extremely Sad!

My sister-in-law found one of the old hand crank cart's (i'm not sure what they were called)they ran on a track like the old train.I think it was $800.00 bucks. We used to love RC Bottle cap day!My father had an old RC machine in his office and we kids would fill a paper sack FULL of caps.We rode all day untill we were sick .

Are you sure that hand crank car was not from Fair Park? Fair Park also did the bottle caps! I thought the childrens coaster track came from Fair Park at Opryland..

Madman, I was BORN in 1974. 1/14/74. Why do parks have to keep closing? We lost more parks in the past few years like Miracle Strip, Panama City Beach, FL after 2004, Pavilion, Myrtle Beach after 2006,, and now Astroland at Coney closed this year after being in business since the 60's.

Another video on here finally reveals the massive mistake by one CEO, who decided to close the park, even thought it was profitable. This is beyond sad to those who loved this park and those who worked there. Opryland had "something" that will never be replicated. It was truly a magical place, that was impeccably managed and operated. Everything had to be perfect, from the flowers, to the food and cleanliness. Employees were not allowed to have a bad day and were screened and hand picked, from thousands of applicants. All replaced by a "mall", that no one has ever liked.

My mom would get us season passes every year. She would take me everyday in the summer time if that was what I wanted to do. They made a HUGE mistake by tearing it down. What thrill does Nashville have now? Nothing.

Nah, I was Barney Bass (bass fiddle). There's a new Facebook group for former Opryland Live Entertainment employees. I've posted a couple of pictures there. I have an old 8mm reel I shot at the park that I need to digitize and post here.

I wish I could have gone... I was born in 1992 and live less than 30 mi from where Opryland was located. I like Opry Mills but I wish very much we had Opryland too. My mom worked there as a teenager in the 80s.

I was at the mall and as I stood in the parking lot,I tried to imagine where everything was based on the parling lot. I dont see how they fit Opryland into the space they had to work with?!?

I hate Gaylord for destroying my childhood memories also. True the roller coasters there were not that intense, but that's not what Opryland was about. There was a certain atmosphere at Opryland that just doesn't exist anywhere else. It makes me sad that my 3 children can't experience that. I got to take my oldest when he was 3, the last year it was open. (on the same day hangman got stuck at the top). He was just barely old enough to remember a little bit about his day at Opryland.

Suzanne Overbey Well said ! I couldn’t agree more. I was a performer there in the 80s and you’re right, there was something different about Opryland. I’ve been to several other theme parks, but none have Opryland’s intimate feel. There was something very personal about this park, that was noticed by everyone that ever visited. Sad.

Six Flags theme parks put this one down to shame! If it hadn't already happened, that park should of been demolished instead of Astroworld! Because Opryland boring roller coaster rides and will never amount to Six Flags theme parks!
