Here I run some Intel Optane NVME drives in raid0.
They don't do nearly as well as I'd hoped, but it was fun testing this out.

Small capacity drives like the P1600X will physically have less flash modules, hence the relatively low endurance on these. If it were comparison between similar capacity Optane vs consumer NVMe, you'd find Optane to have rather good endurance. Anyway Optane didn't really shine in capacity nor bandwidth either. What it did better than pretty much any other product out there is very low latency I/O operations. If your workload involves lots of smaller reads and writes, these are absolutely top tier. Sad that Intel is discontinuing them though.

What is the 4K iops performance on this? Crystaldiskmark please!

As one drive im getting about 90k random read iops at qd1 and about 70k write iops on the same 118gb model. Unsure how raid affects random performance tho

Can you back up "the write endurance isn't much to write home about it" . Intel quote 60 DWPD for 5 years for Optane generally.

1292 TBW is what intel states on their site. Intel® Optane™ SSD P1600X Series 118GB. That's pretty high endurance, but the Sabrent drives I have boast over 1800 tbw AND they cost less. Perhaps I was a little harsh stating that "it's nothing to write home about". But still not as good. Performance was on par with the Sabrent drives. If I'm looking for value and longevity I'll stick with the Sabrents. Sorry I don't have 5 years to do an "apples to apples" comparison. Now I'm hungry.....

@TheSasquatchjones DWPD and TBW are not the same thing; both drive capacity and warranty period are relevant factors to determine endurance.

Back to its release date, this things is insane. Even if it's ambiguity usage as system caching and storage, the speed is blazing fast. Nowadays it is just relic 😂 the capacity is just too low for casual Windows OS

P1600X has 118 GB capacity. That's enough for any OS.

Definitely. It was a fun project though. I'll still use this for a cache drive. Waste not want not. Thanks for watching.

I've been using Linux but if I have time maybe I'll do a follow up video. I usually base my opinions on my actual use case and I'm definitely not a benchmarking expert.
