Nice explanation. Some suggestions. You may add the point that by making the light enter into the fibre at greater than the critical angle, the subsequent angles of incidences after TIR will also be greater than the critical angle and as a result, the TIRs will continue until the light reaches the other end. The angles marked in the diagrams can be shown to amply demonstrate this point. One obvious doubt the viewers may get is why not introduce the light at the center of core in a straight light instead of introducing it at an angle which results in a longer path. Due to the bends in the optic fibre cable that natural occur when the cable is laid over long distances, the light will at some point strike the cladding and core interface at lesser than critical angle and will be greatly attenuated. You may also explain how digital signals modulate the light in the fibre optic cable i.e. whether the digital signals (bits of ones and zeros) as a part of modulation switch on or off the light rapidly or vary the amplitude(brightness) of light in discrete steps and the type of modulation used i.e. AM etc.

Thank you sooo much for your kind suggestions and information. You may watch my other videos on optical fibers, where I have explained these points in more detail. Actually this video was a summary of main points about optical fiber. You may visit the playlist of optical fibers in my channel. Thank you so much once again.

Thank you for your prompt response. I am a novice in electronics and communications field and recently got interested in the subject. I have been searching the internet to learn more about the subject. Till I came across your website, I was disappointed with the explanations offered on the websites on the subject. All of the sites either explain the subject in an incorrect and superficial way or make it more complicated by directly plunging into maths equations. You have been explaining the concepts of the subject in a lucid manner with simple diagrams. Thank you once again. To make the videos more interesting, it is suggested to include in the videos, the practical applications of different modulation schemes.

best explanation☺...... Basic Definition/Main Idea: When light enters a fiber optic cable at an angle greater than the critical angle, it undergoes total internal reflection (TIR) and continues to bounce off the walls of the cable until it reaches the other end. This allows for the transmission of light signals over long distances. Real-Life Example or Analogy: Imagine a person standing at the edge of a swimming pool and throwing a ball at an angle towards the opposite side. If the angle is too shallow, the ball will hit the water's surface and bounce off, not reaching the other side. However, if the angle is steep enough, the ball will skip across the water's surface and reach the other side of the pool. Summary: By introducing light into a fiber optic cable at an angle greater than the critical angle, the light undergoes total internal reflection and continues to bounce off the walls of the cable, allowing for long-distance transmission.

Sir as per wave theory,what is mode
@EngineeringMadeEasy6 жыл бұрын
If you consider a ray of light to be a “mode” and the sun outputs light in every infinite angle, you can say it’s “multi-mode”. A laser, can generally be considered a coherent beam of light - one ray, one mode. So when we say multi-mode in regards to fiber optics, it means that there are multiple paths that light can take within the fiber. Hope it helps
