nice. My frame temple doesn't have that springy elasticity though.

Awww.... I bought Gorilla Glue for this, and I see now that's a bad idea. Thank you for the video! It was very well done, and I enjoyed any little story you shared along the way. :)

Do you happen to have a complete video of a spring hinge repair? as in laser/micro arc weld from start to finish?
@LaramyKOptical
@LaramyKOptical 2 жыл бұрын
No. I was never able to find anyone willing to show us how it is done. The repair people play their cards quite close to their chest. I tried - I tried.

@@LaramyKOptical thank's for the response. I have recently purchased a pulse arc welder to do more in house repairs and am also finding that companies do not want to pass on their secrets, or teach for a fee! 1 day, hopefully they will pass on their magical skills!

@@skunksta If you haven't already don't bother with optical try jewelry instead. Might even luck out and find an online jewelry making course or a local hands-on tutor. Probably make out much better.

@@LaramyKOptical Thanks, I have already been looking at a short course for jewellery welding. If anything it will teach me some tricks of the trade when it comes to welding.

Don't get your hopes up. I tried this with my son's glasses ... twice. I followed directions closely each time. The fix lasted less than 2 hours each time.

How would you realign a spring endpiece so that all three screw holes align?
@LaramyKOptical
@LaramyKOptical 2 жыл бұрын
Thread seeker screws, Tap&Snap screws from Opti-Source, thumbtack, paper clip, SIOS spring alignment tool all will work with a little practice.

Super glue works well for this also. As long as your careful to not slobber the glue all over the place
@LaramyKOptical

Angelic, I'm not a fan of Super Glue at all. Too thin/watery, too hard to see, too easy to glue the wrong things, like your fingers... but if it works well for you then use it! John

Laramy-K Optical John. Thank you. I am curious. Is that the same epoxy you used on the plastic frame? And whats it called where do I find it.....amcon, hilco, wilson?
@LaramyKOptical
@LaramyKOptical 5 жыл бұрын
Yes it is. Not really an optical product. Look at Amazon or even better just your local hardware store. They even have easy mix syringe like dispensers. It is 5 Minute 2-Part Epoxy one company is Devcon.

Do you mean GG "super glue?" I love GG but I guess you need to be careful about which one? I know the original expands and foams and is extremely sticky. And once it gets on something it ain't coming off (including your fingers). John

Laramy-K Optical I thought you did a great job!! :) The spring hinge is ALWAYS the first part to break on my glasses, and I’m usually stuck using tape or putty on this, because I’ve tried super glue and it got everywhereee and didn’t close properly. Definitely will go get some epoxy for the next time this happens to me! Thanks for the help.
